I loved playing the first Alone in the Dark and
thinking of buying the sequels. However, I tried
the demo of AITD2, and I killed the 3 ghouls in the
maze but that was it. The demo kicks me out. I didn't
get the sense of adventure. Should I play 2 and 3
in sequence or it doesn't matter? Which one is better?
Thanks to any suggestion.

Neither Aitd 2 nor Aitd 3 can compete with the first game.

Aitd 2 is more of an arcade game than an adventure game. There are so
much fighting to be done that the puzzling aspect really is forgotten.
And the game has the annoying feature that if you forget to do a thing
earlier in the game you cannot progress later in the game. F.i. if you
don't kill all the important persons in the maze and exits via the
statue, you won't have the object you need for going through the door
in the subsequent puzzle. It's an okay game, but not that special.

I've got aitd3 on my HD right now and I'm close to the end now, While
this is much more of an adventure than the prequel I feel the whole
game is a bit "tired". It's not really fun to play the game and the
puzzles are, to say the least, boring. And there's the aspect that
even if you try to do a thing (e.g. examine the nightpost, push it and
so on) it might not work the first time because you didn't stand in
the *exact* position you needed to stand in order to execute whatever
the programmer had in mind. That leads to the, in my case at least,
damned problem of trying to do a thing three or four times even if I
have already gone through the same procedure many times before.
Eventually I'll peek a hint file and find the solution to that puzzle,
and everytime I go: "I've already DONE that"! It just had to be done
standing 83 deegrees to the left or whatever instead of 85....

IMO, Alone 3 is a total letdown... Aitd2 is likely to be cheaper....

Aitd3 was patchy, illogical, and felt like it had been knocked up from all the
bits left out of the other two games..
