Oh my god!!

I can't believe that the whole group isn't set on fire with
discussions about the Into The Shadows demo by Triton! Remember the
jaw-hanging open sensation you had the very first time you saw DOOM in
action? Well, prepare to experience it again....

The is a non-interactive demonstration of 4 (out of 20+) characters
from the upcoming game Into the Shadows...it shows them all walking
and in their attack poses....one is a warrior swinging a sword, the
next is a zombie, then a skeleton, then finally what appears to be a
lizard man with a spear...

The movements for these characters are so realistic it's eerie...and
the environment they move through, IMHO easily rivals that of the
Quake screenshots we have all seen so much of. The characters are
composed of many polygons texture mapped, kind of like the characters
in Bioforge, only better...the demo also features great music and an
interesting moving viewpoint....

Although it is passive, it is well worth the download time (around
5MB)....I found it at:

http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/pub/MSDOS_UPLOADS/games/itsdemo.exe

It may exist at other sites, but this is the only place I've seen it
at..

Does anyone know any more about this game? The only thing that comes
with the demo is an executable file...no documentation, no anything...
Is there a FAQ for this game out...when is the game slated to be
finished?

I think it's more than worth it....about an hour at 14.4 is a small
price to pay to see this thing in action!

I love the way the zombies have to regain their footing after swinging
their arms around to attack! I wonder how Triton modeled these
movements?? Rotoscoping??

And this can only improve things for us gamers...no matter which one
is the best, Into The Shadows or Quake, we all have two awesome games
to look forward to now, instead of one!

Guess you've never seen VF2, eh?

It's about time the PC had something like that (motion capture)...

Well, there have been a couple of dozen posts about this demo on most
of the games groups and on Id's Quake discussion board.... There would be

more I think but a lot of people can't be bothered to download a 5 meg
demo when its not interactive...

Its ALL calculated in realtime as well, wit multiple light sources.

The tumor is that Id pushed the release date of Quake back after they
saw this demo...

Its the viewpoinmt you get in the finished game - it wont be a 1st person perspective
game like doom/quake.

It isn't that great. The characters look blocky and distorted.
Their movements didn't even look that convincing, except of that green
guy with a spear. It might be worth to check out though. I have one
Question, from the looks of the demo, it seems it's going to be a 3rd
person perspective game?

We must not be looking at the same thing....the characters are the
least blocky that I have ever seen in a game that renders characters
with polygons and texture mapping. What do you expect, movie-quality?
We are talking PC's here, not a Silicon Graphics workstation or
something....

Notice how the zombies nearly lose their footing after swinging their
arms....they have to pick up their foot ever so slightly and put it
down again.....you don't call that "convincing"?

I hear that the view you see in the demo is similar to what the final
game release will look like...obviously it is not going to be a
first-person shooter a la DOOM.

I haven't had a chance to really go searching yet, but what I hear is
that Triton doesn't even have Internet access, and got someone else to
upload the demo for them....another rumor I have heard is that ITS
will be out in time for Christmas!

FX fighter tried, but IMHO, flopped.

The *INSTANT* I saw him do that first swing of the sword, I *KNEW*
that the great demo groups had returned and that *FINALLY* someone was
going to give id a run for its money!! [not that I hate id or
anything. :]

The music was awesome, the camera-like viewpoint was awesome, I could
have this thing running all DAY and never get tired of it!

What you have to remember about Into The Shadows and Quake is that they
are very different. Id is focusing on making an awesome deathmatch fast
live action game, something that finally beats DoomII as far as fun
playing against others. Into The Shadows seems more like a fightinh /
adventure game. It's 3rd person so it can't be compared and people
arent going kto be running around at warp10 shooting rockets at each
other. It seems like it's going to be like FX Fighterish except your
moving from room to room to kill stuff, it's not gonna be running around
liek you are in doom. That's why they can do some cool stuff that quake
isnt like real time shadowing. Both look like they're gonna rock, but I
think quake is defenatly gonna be more fun and longerlasting because of
deathmatch, just like Doom II is. After all there are alot of games out
there that have better graphics and some cooler features than Doom II
but nothing touches it when you want to go at it with your friends.
Into the sadows reminds me of Alone in the Dark, jsut way cooler genre,
and way better graphics, along with fast gameplay and more control, IT
IS NO QUAKE KIller. Alos just for the record apparently Quake is not
gonna be the name of quake eg. they have another name in mind.

Just my endless spooging,

They should just make the game an un-pronounceable symbol and refer to it
as "the game formerly known as Quake." :)

Sorry couldn't help it. Tell me if this gets through. It is my first post.

Anyway, iD must try hard to impress people after this game. I
found my jaw dropped after I'd watched this demo.

Ah, that usual iD's bullshit. No matter how they'd call it, we
all know what Quake Killer is supposed to mean, don't we?

Yep, it's all true! They don't have I-net where they work in LA, I uploaded it
to WUArchive so that you guys could see how good it is :-), and yes they're
aiming for Christmas. (If they get I-net connection I'll let you know!)

So

Have a fun X-mas!

Yes it is. Don't listen to the above response. These are some of the most
convincing 3d realtime character graphics and animations I've seen on the pc.
While not as good as the ones you see on Virtua Fighter II, they are
excellent. Certainly better that FX Fighter The animations were very
convincing. Check out the real time shadows. Yes, this will be a 3rd person
perspective game. It is supposedly a cross between a fighting game, such as
VF II, and an adventure game, where you journey around a castle. Looks like a
game to keep a sharp eye on.

I agree fully on this. I haven't seen Quake in action since
they haven't put out a demo of it, but I -LOVED- the realtime shadows
and accurate lighting that the Shadows demo showed.

If Quake doensn't have realtime shadows, it's going to detract
SO MUCH from the game immersion compared to Into the Shadows. And the
accurate lighting? WOW! I especially liked the part of the demo
where the zombies are walking down the hallway, passing the torches on
the wall, and they light up as the pass, and only one side of their
bodies stays lit. Oooooh...

I will buy Quake because it is an action game like Doom. I don't like
fighting/adventure games like ITS.
