Keyboard control is completely configurable. The "build" engine
keeps getting better and better.
That said, now some gripes:
The only way you know a bad guy is near is you start getting pelted
with bullets/darts (whatever). I am usually half dead before I figure
out where the shots are coming from. This alone ruins a lot of the
fun of the game. When will companies other than ID realize that
dying around every corner is NOT fun.
Aiming the gun is impossible. The bad guys are pelting you while you
inch the reticle closer to them, bad, bad.
Like someone else said here, the enemies look like ROTT.
Can you enter the Subway car? This seems really stupid, the door
opens, there is nothing impeding me, but I cannot get in??
That Capstone truck keeps running over innocent people. It is funny
to watch them splatter, however.
Kill someone next to a wall and they fall through it. Half on one
side, half on the other. I've also seen that woman that runs around
walk through closed doors.
The William Shatner picture in the beginning is pathetic. What is
that resolution 200x100?
That gun that shoots the rockets (or whatever) has no blast radius.
You have to be dead on...
Thanks for the feedback. Right now I can tell you that the sprite
bleed (people falling through walls, etc.) will be fixed. You'll also
be able to ride the subway (and a few other things) in the final
release. There will be additional enemies in the final release, as
well. Additionally, the controls will be improved. The
shooting/loss of health will be adjusted....the Tekwar team is
lisening. Keep the feedback coming.

Yes this is much better :)

I don't use the recticle. Never had one before, don't need one
now :) Just distracting really.
>Like someone else said here, the enemies look like ROTT.
Well I wouldn't say they look like ROTT, they're just ROTT like.
I mean we are in a city so the people have to look semi-human.

Nope you can't I've tried.

I really don't think this is a gripe. I mean have YOU ever been
hit by it. I did. ooops!

This seems to be a recurring problem for Capstone. Hope they
shoot the idiot that programmed that part.
>That gun that shoots the rockets (or whatever) has no blast radius.
>You have to be dead on...
Yeah and when you shoot the barrels they explode but that's
it!!!! Hope they add blast radius stuff in the final version or in a
patch. Got killed once by assuming the guy would die from the barrel
explosion.

Actually, you can (even though you're not supposed to be able to.)
I managed it while down in the train area of the platform (getting down
there was a feat in itself.) By crouching and holding shift and jumping,
over and over, I got down off the platform. Then, while the train was
stopped, I held shift and jumped around by the door of the train. After a
few tries, I was in! The ride was really boring. ;) The hard part is getting
off the train.
Another nifty trick is riding the Capstone truck. If you stand on one of
the fences between a building and the street, you can jump on the top of
the truck using shift-x.
These little tricks definitely help enhance the enjoyment of this "game."

the level design seems to be pretty good...as far in the city as i have got...
the textures for whatever part of the city you're in seem to go well for the
theme of wherever you're at...the enemy has a good ai, as well as the
police & civilians, too...<g>.."I can't believe this is happening.." heh-heh...
well, believe it...cuz if/when capstone chills the enemies down a little bit
.i.e.; uhhh...i don't know about everyone else, but i don't like to get
killed by every other enemy i see....the capstone truck...well, what can
i say about this, but cool....uhhh, watch out mr. pedestrian...or this delivery
of Tekwar: the game to the store shelves will take more precedence than
your life...<g>...headlights on the truck need to go a bit farther out tho...
especially since the thing has ran over me from behind...if i could see
the headlights getting farther away, i'd know the punk wuz gettin ready to
play deathrace 2000 on me... ;)
i'm not sure, have only "possibly" seen this once, but when i shot one of
the goons, outside in the street, he wuz right next to a wall, and after i
gunned him down...a saw a red smudge on the wall...not sure, but i don't
think that the smudge wuz there before i kilt him...anyone know if this is
a feature?? if it iz, that would be cool....bout time somebody did this...
All in all, a very, very good attempt...if ya ain't got this demo and ya like
3d first person shooters....get it now...
So, Capstone, cupl of things......
1) Fix the enemies, so that they don't toast ya at every turn.....
2) and i read it will be speed optimized...is this for 486's too or just
pentiums??? hate ta see my frame rate at the moment in this
demo... ;)
3) and how about fixing that terrible picture of Shatner at the
opening...kinda stinks...what resolution iz that??

MacDeath
and the pale horse kicks ass, too....
You can change the forward backwar sensitivity as follows: First,
press F10. Next hold down the right mouse button. Now move the mouse
forward. You'll notice the numbers on the screen go up. When you get
to around 200 stop moving the mouse. Hit F10 again. You now won't
have to worry so much about going inadvertantly reversind direction.
You can set the number higher, if you like.
BTW, we're optimizing the maps right now. The framerate will be much
better in the final release.

Once, I was standing in the middle of the street, minding my own
business. I suddenly heard someone behind me scream out in pain, and
I ran out of the way just in time to see the poor chap's head fly by.
The truck followed. Now, folks, THIS is realism :) But yeah,
headlights would help, as we don't always have the innocent bumper pad
standing behind us.

Yeah, the bullet went through and splatted blood. It's cool to shoot
them in the head, then they fall down and leave the blood dripping on
them. Now, folks, THIS is realism :)

Also , if you get right up against some of the doors, you can shoot
right through them..
And does anyone know how to hit that switch that's hidden on the Desk
that i believe opens a secret room? I can squat down and see the
switch but can't hit it..

Thats good to know.
So far here are my impressions.
The good:
Graphics : Pretty good. I'm very impressed. If it only ran faster,
it'd be alot of fun. Very sharp textures, and graffiti and such. I
also liked the touch of the Witchaven poster in the subway.
Sound: Not bad, but there seems to be alot of things going on, and
some sounds cut out. It does give the impression of chaos sorta. I
like the sounds in the subway, and the water etc.. very well done.
Levels: The design is very nice. I like how you are in a virtual city.
There is a hospital, and subway and bank and stuff.. really really
neat.
Playability: Smooth controls, you can configure your own keys, which
comes in handy. The enemies are difficult and smart. Alot of neat
touches.
Those pop up displays are very nice too.
The Bad:
You need a lo-detail setting. I prefer that over making the screen
smaller all the time. Runs terrible on my dx2-66 in lo res.
The jumping is messed up in some places.. you can climb some walls
actually.
The clipping is messed up in some spots. I went thru some walls and it
killed me every time.
I get caught on corners alot, along a smooth wall.
The enemy is too deadly. They shoot the instant I walk around a
corner, from a mile away, even if I have my gun put away. I usually
have a really hard time trying to see who the hell is shooting! Even
worse, they never miss from a mile away!
The crawling is too high too.. if you could lower it a bit, it would
be nice. It was a little high for a grating I went into.
The weapons suck. All except the 3rd one. It would be nice to have an
inventory for medical stuff etc.. It would be nice to have some form
of detonation devices, or grenades. Sometimes I shoot, but I get no
sound, or no fire. But my hand recoils.
All minor things to fix. It looks like it has some potential, if its
speeded up quite a bit.
You have to lie down, by pressing shift+crouch.
And it's not a secret room; it's the LAST room.
