Got a problem: my Gravis Gamepad Pro is not recognized in Windows98.
I can only use it as 4-button Gravis gamepad. In Fifa 98 i could use all 8
buttons in Windows 95, but after upgrading to Windows 98 it doesnt work with
8 buttons.
No updates/patches on Gravis homepage, any suggestions???
Thanks
Chris
1. Uninstall the GRIP software if you have already done so. 2. Copy the
joy.cpl file from your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to your desktop. 3. Install
the drivers 4. Double click on the joy.cpl icon on your desktop (NOT the
gravis icon in the control panel) 5. Select Gravis Gampead Pro and calibrate.
This is a sucky workaround considering the gravis drivers "breaks" you control
panel! Why the hell hasn't Gravis hasn't released new drivers yet?!

to get at least 8 of the 10 buttons on the gamepad pro to work, do the
following.
- Install the gamepad pro software that came with the pad.
- go to the windows/system directory and rename the file joyapp.cpl to
joyapp.bak .
- If the Microsoft game controller is no longer in the control panel, stay
in the
windows/system directory and rename joy.bak to joy.cpl .
Now in the control panel, The microsoft game conrol applet should be
available
again and you should be able to select the gravis grip as controller now.
Gravis will be releasing a new version of their xperience drivers which
will include
grip and gamepad pro support. When? All the Tech person said was shortly
*shrug*
Hope this helps. Take care.

In the mean time, go to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, rename the JOY.BAK file
to JOY.CPL and rename the JOYAPP.CPL to JOYAPP.BAK.
This will restore your Game Controller icon and allow you to configure your
GRiP.

Errrrrrrrrrr.......I have 2 Gravis Gamepad Pro's working perfectly under
Windows 98?
Did you guys do clean installs? I just upgraded straight from Windows
95.

Yep, on a clean install, you will need to do what was mentioned in my previous
post. Which applet do you have? The Game Adapter, Gravis, or both?
I did this, and configured my 2 Gamepad PRO's as Gravis Grip's. Still, in
FIFA 98 rtwc, I can't select a Gravis Gamepad PRO in the controller select
screen. I can only get that generic thing with 6 buttons. All the buttons
are screwed up when playing, and I keep getting red cards trying to use the
button which was 'burst of speed' in Win 95 and is now 'level the nearest
opponent with slide tackle of death or elbow-to-the-face.'
Help!

I have been having exactly the same problem as you. I eMailed Gravis
and they replied very quicky saying they are working on an update for
WIN 98. Until then, I followed all the previous instructions in the
newsgroup. Then i set the switch on the back of the gamepad to (i),
opened Control Panel , advanced, change and changed the top controller
to a 4 button gamepad. That way the four main buttons operate as they
would normally i.e. burst of speed is actually burst of speed !,
although you do lose the use of the other buttons.
Hope this helps - if you hear of any other solution, please let me
know.
