"Die Bitch!" "My house!" "And stay down!" "You like that?"

While its nice to have vocals in the game they sure get old in a hurry.
Its either silence or repetitive voice taunts, neither are a great thing
to have.

Anyone have a solution on how to keep this feature
cool/interesting/funny yet not a pain in the ass and annoying after 10
min of 'My house!' over and over?

I think they need to increase the amount of taunts by 10x and allow them
occur much less often.

Then the game would increase and size, and then other people would bitch
that the game's too big. However, I would tend you agree with you (but I
can see why they don't).

After a Team Fortress game last night, with some 13-year-old shouting four
times a second about how a couple other players had kinky gay orgies
together, I wholeheartedly agree. A little less taunting would be a good
thing.

Yes, they should remove the auto-taunt "feature" of Unreal Tournament.
If somebody wants to taunt, make them stop to select a taunt. After
they get fragged a few times while in the taunt menu, they will taunt
a lot less frequently. Also, they should put in equally as many
compliments as taunts. Right now there are no complimentary voice
commands, which makes for an immature, juvenile unsportsmanlike
environment. You contantly hear a barrage of negative comments, and
it is a real turn-off after awhile. When I am in a deathmatch in Q2,
especially if it's one-on-one, people tend to type stuff to the other
player like "nice shot," etc. if their opponent frags them by using a
good maneuver.

Not really. All they need to do is bind an audio taunt to a single
keystroke. Epic needs to not allow audio keystroke binds also.

This is a great idea. "Nice shot!" or "Sweet move!" would definitely be a
good addition.

Just to show off the one fact about history I happen to know, the
Gettysburg Address was actually rather short when compared to other
speeches. I beleive it was only 4 minutes. While still a tad long for
a taunt, saying the checkers speech or the 'i did not have sex with
that woman - Monica Lewinsky' one would be even worse.

Huh??

Why would you want 10x the taunts occuring at less frequent intervals. That
would only get 10x as annoying, just not as quickly.

So there are more taunts being less redundant and you hear them a lot less.

There is no math to do. When you're talking about a finite number, it will
eventually become redundant and annoying. It will just take a little
longer. I don't need to hear one hundred variations of "die bitch" to know
that it's just some random audio file being played every time someone gets
fragged. It's stupid. Half the players probably aren't even hearing them
(like me), since taunts from other players can be turned off anyway.

It's been brought up over and over, but is there any chance they will ever
put "compliments" in with the taunts? At least a "nice shot" now and then.
Imagine if they had an "auto-compliment" setting. :)

I'd also love to see a complement feature - like "Amazing aim!", "I am
honored to die by your hand". Or, more meaningful taunts like "The next
time you camp, you'd better have enough marshmellows for EVERYONE" after
you kill someone who's been in the same spot for more than thirty seconds.

What I was thinking would also be cool (and at first what I thought it
might have) is to have a voice synthizier (sp?!) sound out all the comments
that go by... with some sort of option to lock out the words of a few
idiots that just keep saying the same thing over and over or just love to
swear. There are too many times where I miss comments that go by because
I'm too busy playing, if we had them all vocalized I wouldn't miss
anything.

Actually, independant of the ability to turn text to speech, I'd be happy
with just the ability to lock out some players messages/taunts altogether.

Yeah, or how about other exclamations like...

"Pardon me, do you have any Gray Poupon"

or

"Excuse me, is this your endtrail or mine?"

or

"Terribly Sorry, is this camping spot already taken?"

:o)

Personally I think the auto-taunts should "die bitch".

I mean, there's no gratification if no effort is done to say those words.
Even with an assigned hot key it still feels good to know that your opponent
put forth SOME kind of effort in telling you to "eat &#$@".

It lets you know that they care. :-)

Down with Auto-taunt.

Okay, I never understand that line in the film, and neither do any of my
friends. This could be because I'm English, or perhaps just stupid.
Someone - what the hell is Gray Poupon??!

BTW, Descent3 is a nice example of taunts, because they are customisable.
You can only have 4 audio taunts, so they get old, but at least you can
change them. One nice taunt I have is 'thank you sir, may I have another',
from Animal House. And if someone else in the game plays you a taunt, it's
automatically saved in your HD for future use if you want.

Grey Poupon is a spicy mustard with a horrible ad campaign (US TV) that had
two Rolls Royce's at a stoplight when one of the Rolls occupant's asks the
other car if they have any Grey Poupon.

Keep in mind that this is the demo. It is very likely that the taunting
will be changed by the time the full version is released - especially
with how much feedback there is right here. As for myself, I kind of
like the auto-taunt, though I would like to be able to customize it
somehow. A directory with .wav's, or simply being allowed to choose
from a list would be fine. Additionally, I think some compliments might
be nice too.

Nahh, Firaxis already solved this problem in Tribes. You can selectively
mute any player that you want to. No more having to listen to screaming
kids, AND your bandwidth to the server improves slightly.

Yep, I agree. It would be nice to see FPS designers encouraging some good
sportsmanship.
