Thanks in advance.
Have you installed the Nov. 2008 update to Directx? Go to Microsoft and
download dxwebsetup.exe, run that while connected to the internet and it
will update to latest version.
Thanks for your response. If this is the update your referring to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en
it appears that it is for version 9.0c or earlier. I did a search but
couldn't come up with anything related to version 10.

Yes, that's it. Install it anyway because Vista is missing a DX9 file that
some games need to run so is a defacto standard to install on any Vista
gaming box.
Also, right click the game shortcut and select run as administrator, some
games need that in Vista, you should install games with admin rights too on
Vista.
If neither of those two things fix it then I expect it is a video driver
issue or just a game bug that needs to be fixed. I don't have Farcry2 so
can't say for sure. I was going to buy it while at Walmart earlier but the
bastages didn't have it. Walmart PC game selection is getting worse and
worse. They treat PC games like they are an unwanted child.
I just came across info on what the problem is. ATI video card driver issue.
They have a DX10.1 hotfix at their website to download and install to fix
the issue in Farcry2.
If that was the issue then it would apply to DX9 too. His problem is just
with DX10. I jut bought Farcry2 last night and have only ran it with DX9 so
far. Just downloaded the 8.12 drivers for ATI 4800 cards and will go try
DX10 after I install them. The hotfix is actually for 8.11 driver and is not
needed for 8.12.
I really am not sure what your issue is because I bought Farcry2 last
night, although I regret it now because of the DRM, and it is running on
DX10 fine. I did update my video drivers to ATI 8.12 for Vista64 though.
That hotfix I mentioned before is for 8.11 drivers and not 8.12. Are you
using 8.12 driver? If not go get them and install them and then set FC2
to DX10.
I can't seem to figure out the problem either. I've tried all the
suggestions, the ATI hotfix,
upgrading to CAT 8.12, the DirectX update, etc but nothing seems to solve
the problem. I guess for the time being I'll stick with DX 9.
Again, thanks for your help.
Are the video drivers set to default with no FSAA etc.?
That did the trick! Thanks for your help.
Good.
