Reposted...... incorrect posting date....the date in my
computer-clock was hosed....sorry....apologies for
consuming extra net bandwidth.....

Also took the opportunity for some text clarification...

=========================
Hey, guys,

Take a look at this straight off the Origin Web Pages
(November 9, 1996). What are Origin up to ????
Especially the last few lines of text !!!!!

----------------- inserted text --------------

ORIGIN takes the Privateer gaming experience
to a new frontier!

Privateer 2: Deluxe Edition is a limited, enhanced
edition of Privateer 2. It adds several new elements
to the existing game, including the blockbuster
best-selling ORIGIN's Official Guide to Privateer 2,
and a limited edition cloth patch. Total value for all
of this is almost $100!

CONTENTS
Privateer 2: The Darkening
ORIGIN's Official Guide to Privateer 2: The Darkening
Privateer 1
Limited Edition Privateer 2 Cloth Patch

KEY FEATURES
In both games:
Choose from a variety of intricately detailed ships
Upgrade your ships from a huge selection of
advanced weaponry and equipment
Take on hundreds of different missions
Explore hundreds of different locations, including
planets, mining bases, space stations,
repair and commodity stations, and secret sites .
Follow a plotted mission structure or choose your
own path through the galaxy!

In Privateer 2: <--- missing text, I assume "Deluxe Edition"

Gather clues from Christopher Walken and John
Hurt
SVGA video-player accompanied by 16-bit stereo
sound . <--------- WHAT !!!!!! (ed.)

Full support for CH Flightstick throttles <------ WHAT !!!!!!

---------------- end of inserted text -------------------------

Implications:-

No 16-bit stereo sound in the base version of game ????

So those of us who have CH Flighstick throttles have to
pay for this @#@$@#$# edition to be able to use them ???

ORIGIN, WHAT ARE YOU IDIOTS UP TO ????? !!!!!
WHICH TREE DO YOU LIVE IN ????

I don't mind seeing a Limited Edition with lots of extra
goodies, like the Strategy Guide and Privateer 1,
but when Origin DELIBERATELY <<cripple>> features
of the base version of Privateer 2 itself to make a buck
on the Limited Edition, then I feel like throwing up !!!

Origin deserves many, many flames.

Can somebody PLEASE convince Origin that this
is terrible public-relations and shoddy Marketing ????

I think this is where you're making your mistake -- why are you
assuming that this refers to the Deluxe Edition?

> Gather clues from Christopher Walken and John
> Hurt

By your assumption, this means that CW and JH never appear in the
"base" version of Privateer 2. Considering that every article and
piece of promotional material for the game features them, this seems
unlikely, not to mention that it would mean that Origin had spent
heaps of money on big-name actors who would appear only in a limited
edition of the game.

Oy. Having just finally gotten through to Origin's website, I have to
ask: Did you read the Description page about regular Privateer 2
before you clicked on the Deluxe Edition link? Among the features it
lists there FOR THE REGULAR VERSION, oddly enough, are:

* SVGA video-player accompanied by 16-bit stereo sound
* Full support for CH Flightstick throttles

>ORIGIN, WHAT ARE YOU IDIOTS UP TO ????? !!!!!
>WHICH TREE DO YOU LIVE IN ????

Before you start screaming and throwing rotten tomatoes, go back and
reread the pages on their website. Origin is neither stupid nor
evil. They target their games for extremely high-end systems, which
makes some people unhappy; they've turned out some buggy games and
some real clunkers, which also makes some people unhappy. They are
not, however, in the habit of slitting their own throats in the way
you suggest.

I don't suppose you remember the WC3 Special/Limited Edition, do you?
That was simply the regular WC3 game, plus assorted goodies (a
T-shirt, a video, and the Strategy Guide, as I remember), in a fancy
box, for a ridiculous price. There's no reason to believe that their
P2 marketing scheme is going to be any different. (Except that they
say "total value for all this is nearly $100!", which implies that the
Limited Edition will cost less than that. The WC3 LE cost almost
exactly $100, if I remember correctly.)

Calm down, John. Don't Panic. You're going to get exactly the same
game whether you buy the Limited Edition or the regular. I do hope
this isn't going to turn into another anti-Origin flamefest by people
who read your post and get all outraged without even bothering to
check the website for themselves.

Just because you are an idiot who can't read does not give you the right to
post stupid dumb-ass comments free-form on the web. Did you ever think you
could read the information as follows:

"Both games" may be talking about Privateer 1 & 2 which are BOTH contained in
the deluxe version, while Priv 2 has all the other extra features. Think
before you write, you'll feel better.

It's people like you who post without thinking that gives some companies
bruises on the net. Although Origin may have done damage to themselves in the
past, they would never do anything so stupid, especially with their primary
product for the Christmas season.

In article <32847d66...@news.teleport.com>, joh...@teleport.com
spewed...

: Privateer 2: The Darkening
: Privateer 1

From the contents, the deluxe package comes with both Privateer 2 and the
original Pivateer.

:In both games:

i.e. Both Privateer 1 and Privateer 2 have these features...

:In Privateer 2: <--- missing text, I assume "Deluxe Edition"
: Gather clues from Christopher Walken and John
: Hurt
: SVGA video-player accompanied by 16-bit stereo

: sound . <--------- WHAT !!!!!! (ed.)
: Full support for CH Flightstick throttles <------ WHAT !!!!!!

In Privateer 2 ONLY is there Christopher Walken and John Hurt, SVGA
graphics etc. Privateer 1 had no actors, no CH support, no SVGA, etc.

:Origin deserves many, many flames.

I'd say Origin deserves an apology from you, not flames. Try reading a
bit more closely and getting your facts straight before going off on a
company.

Apparently, your ability to read is hosed, too. The only idiot here is
you. I suggest you go back to highschool (if not in it already) and take
some rudimentary reading class.

The original poster isn't being trashed because he made a mistake, he is being
trashed because of the trashing he did himself. He posted his complaint, and
then took the time to post two additional messages correcting his complaints.
If he had spent half that time actually reading the web site, or questioning
the validitity of his own assumptions (which he even admitted were
assumptions), this would never have happened.

STOP-PRESS!!! E-MAIL FROM ORIGIN TODAY :- The Deluxe Edition will
be IDENTICAL to the Normal, except for the additional extra goodies,
Strategy Guide, Privateer 1, etc... in the package. Error in their
Web-page; will be corrected ASAP.

THANK YOU SO MUCH ORIGIN . My faith is restored.... looking forward
to the game.

ETC.,

Don't assume anything. Logically, the both versions of Privateer II
will include the same game. The packaging and the strategy guide, and
Kilrathi underpants with the deluxe version will be the only variance.

Looks like someone doesn't believe in punctuation (your
semi-colon/parenthesis "wink face" doesn't count). You ought to try it
sometime.

OK everybody, I know you've never heard of me before, but all the PR
guys are swamped this afternoon, so they asked me to rumor-control this.

This *is* the official word from ORIGIN.

You assume incorrectly. This part of the anouncement refers to ALL
editions of Privateer.

Your implications are false. The above part of the announcement referred
to ALL editions of the game.

No, it's in ALL versions of the game.

No, ALL versions of the game support the throttle.

Geeze, all it was one one confusining subhead in an announcement. No
need to call out the National Guard.

No need.

It's just Electronic Arts UK marketing the product under the Origin
logo, not a game made at Origin.

Sorry, Chris. Somebody at Origin sent me a <very> courteous e-mail
a week ago, saying that they were going to clarify their Web-page
and that all was right with the world.

Which led to me posting an instant retraction to the Net at that time.
Which some of you may have missed. ....

In future, if I have any doubts about Origin's intentions, I shall
mail them first, before I even think of consuming Net bandwidth
(and raising the blood-pressure of some individuals...).

Subject closed ??

Looking forward very much to Privateer2.
