Im on the mission where I must use mortars and rockets to take out eight or
nine tanks before they enter town. It seems impossible to me to do this.

The mortars seem to do nothing to them and I do not have enough rockets and
enough time to lauch them at the tanks before they reach the gate to the
town.

Anybody do this mission succesfully? Is there a trick to aiming the mortars
or what?

T.I.A.

This level was really hard and it took me at least a dozen tries before I
was successful. I don't recall specifically what happened since I was
simply relieved to have gotten past that part, but it was extremely
important to take out the first group of tanks. What ended happening for me
was that when the last set of tanks came out, one of them got "stuck" behind
one of the destroyed tanks and he could not move forward any more...although
he was pretty close to the house. In terms of the mortars, when a tank is
close to the house, do not aim the cursor directly on the tank. You should
point the mortars more upwards so that they get the correct trajectory. It
took me a bit of time to figure this out, but once I did, taking out the
last tank was a cinch and I was able to complete the level.

Again, I agree this part of the game is very hard and frustrating. Even
worse is the fact that you have a squadmate standing around doing absolutely
nothing while you try to destroy the incoming tanks. If it was me, I'd be
working like mad to help destroy them. :-) Saving the game frequently
helped too. If you thought the tanks were hard, I think you'll also like
the final level of Breakthrough. :-) Overall, it was a satisfying game to
play but it certainly had a couple of really tough spots.

put the site very high (steep angle) so the shells drop close, then track
them as you lower the angle to go toward the tanks. It's hard to see them
hit the ground, and when the angle isnt steep enough they go right over the
knoll. There are many parts of this game I just find frustarating, not fun
and the realism just isnt there when the enemy spawns right in front of you,
is shooting you immediately while my hdd is thrashing to generate them...

Move the mouse one way to point the mortar tube AWAY from you - gives
you distance. Move the mouse the other way to make the tube point
HIGHER and you fire a shorter distance. Experiment from the start of
the level. On hard this took me a couple of goes PER WAVE. You
should quick save between waves otherwise a couple of goes becomes
lots!

An excellent add-on IMHO.

Thanks for all the help guys. Ill try it tonight some time. Just got off a
12hr shift so Im going to need some zzz first LOL.

I did save right after killing the first three tanks but used mostly rockets
for that. Next time I will do more with the mortars.

I usually quit a game if it becomes too frustrating but my feeling is that
one frustrating level leads to more enjoyable ones later.

Now if you really want to talk frustration, try the new Homeworld 2...argh!
I thought the first one was hard but it was a walk in the park compared to
this thing.

Thanks again.

I am sad to say that I am getting really, really frustrated with this game.
It is simply impossbile to get by this section (and others) without
cheating. I started it at the highest difficiulty setting and now cannot go
back to set it to intermediate or easy. So I am cheating all the way to the
end. I know I am pathetic, but I usually always try the most difficult
setting on all my FPS games, and it is simply more difficult not impossible!
And there is not enough ammo!

Arrrghh!

If you think this game is bad, stay FAR away from IGI2 LOL.
No ingame saves at all and it's harder.

IGI2 has limited ingame saves.

It's actually do-able on the hardest setting. I managed to after like close
to 20x. You've got to memorise which tank approaches you first and you've
got to get the angle of your mortar as accurate as possible.

P/S: I chose the hardest setting on Halo on the PC and I had to cheat all
the way through. That's one tough game!

Err... why play on the hardest setting if you just cheat your way
through it?
