Anyone else having a hard time running Duke with an AWE32? I can get it
to emulate a SB16 no prob. but I didn't buy a 32 bit sound card so I
could emulate a 16 bit card.

I can get the AWE sound effects just fine but the music is the problem.
It crashes with either AWE music selection or General MIDI selection.
Help!

I'm running Duke with a Soundblaster 32 PnP which works just fine...but
the problem is that the wave music for this game really sucks!!! I
recommend finding some good .MID files and using them as the background
music in the .CON files in the Duke directory

Err excuse me, the AWE32 is another example of 'creative' advertising
(in both senses of the word). The AWE is just a SB16 with ASP and
built in MIDI wavetable - much like the GUS has the programmable MIDI
wavetable. The AWE (and so far as I know *ALL* modern IBM PC soundcards)
output only 16bit sound.. there is no thing as 32bit sound on home
computers at the moment.

Doesn't the 32 in AWE32 stand for 32 voices or something anyway, not 32
bit?

Brett...

the "32" doesn't stand for bits...I believe it's the polyphony...32
notes at one time...

I'm running the AWE32 (Value ed.) & have had no probs with Duke at all.
My Settings are: IRQ 5, DMA 1, HDMA 5.

Hope this helps

I had exactly the same problem, until I added E620 to my BLASTER configuration
line in autoexec.bat.

Enjoy,

Paul.

I had the same problem until some kind soul pointed out to me that you
need "E620" at the end of your BLASTER environment variable.

I haven't needed this for any other game, and my SB setup programs
never specified this...but it works! Without it, DN3D locks up or
refuses to run. I don't get it, considering you have to specify
all the addresses in the SETUP program anyway...

Thanks to the person who gave the suggestion of putting a E620 (or E660)
on the Soundblaster line in Autoexec.bat - my AWE32 is now working great
w/Duke Nukem!

My SB AWE 32 - full version works without a hitch with Duke.

Duke doesn't use "wave" music. Either way, while some of the music is a
bit on the cheesy side, some it isn't half bad.
