1. Has anyone else found it impossible to get onto the roof in the stage
after destroying the communication towers?
2. Is there really very little interest in this game and if so what
should I have bought.
Your replies eagerly awaited.....

T:FS hasn't gotten much attention, but IMHO, it's much better than
Duke Nukem 3D and comparable games. It's 3D engine has most of the
features than Quake will have, and it's available NOW.
Stick with it. The plot and the ending are quite spectacular.

T:FS is a great game overall with a excellent 3D engine. However, it
lacks a multiplayer option and tools to customize it as in Duke and
others. That's the main reason it hasn't gotten much online
attention.

btw, a multiplayer patch is supposed to be released sometime
I couldn't agree more, I had a blast playing T:FS. The game was actually
met with a fair amount of enthusiasm when it first came out last summer.
Without any multiplayer support (for now) the game has kinda slipped into
obscurity. IMHO T:FS is by far the best 1pp shooter for single player.
The story line is good, the level maps are unbelievable (and huge!), the
graphics engine is very nice (full 3D), and there are a ton of things to
do. The last level is really cool too.

you have to get on to the girders to the girder at about 45 degrees
and jump through the hole in the roof.

Um, the game is at least 4 months old, so NOW, yes there is very
little interest (posts) about the game. I loved the game: best
feeling of 3d outdoors that I have seen. It makes it hard to go back
to corridor games. However the response seemed to be either you love
it or you hate it. Control is very different from doom, color palette
can suck, map is cute but useless, plus several sections where a LOT
of people got stuck in a "what now?"
A really great, though older, game is System Shock - great immersive
environment! Plus the CD enhanced (probably the only one available
now) version is out as Origin's (or EA's) bargain series so it should
be under US$20.00.
T.
Future Shock is a great game ! Actually one thing that I like in the new
Duke 3D is being able to use 'mouse aim' mode, so your control is just
like Future Shock. This is a much more intuitive and realistic feeling
method of control in a 3d environment. Using the keyboard to look up and
down is bullshit. Cool that Duke has learned from Future Shock !
I'm on level 9 or so, and while I have enjoyed it, I'm starting to
grow a little tired of the dark, metallic look of everything. I might
put it aside for a while.
Does anyone besides me get sick of shooting these robots? :)

Well, I'd have to part a little with you here. The mouse control is
Duke3D isn't as good as T:FS's. For one thing you can't look all the
way up and I've heard mention from serveral people who've had
compatibilty problems. Maybe that doesn't bother some people, but if
I've got a baddie over my head damaging me and I can't get a bead on
him, it's frustrating as hell.
Just my opinion.

I think Bethesda kinda shot themselves in the foot with this one. I
think they had some trouble distributing it so it wasn't widely
available when it came out. And then there was the release of Hexen
which happened around about the same time.
>1. Has anyone else found it impossible to get onto the roof in the stage

I had some trouble with it as I remember, but as happens in most games
I stuff with it and just when I was ready to go ask for help, I
stumbled on the answer. My advice in this area would be to keep
trying and to explore all available and conceivable options. There's
only so much you can do and you'll feel better when beating the game
if you do it on your own.
>2. Is there really very little interest in this game and if so what

The interest is there, but most people will only play a game that
doesn't have network support once, especially when there are so many
really good games coming out. I know Dark Forces has a big following,
but that's 'Star Wars' material so...:-)
To tell you the truth I don't know why T:FS hasn't really caught on.
Maybe its because the graphics aren't that bright or maybe its the
lack of any real good background music (I played with mine off) or
maybe its because the demo was really bad. :) I don't think its the
network support though. Contrary to popular belief I don't think an
action game has to have network support to have a long life.
Hmm..another thing that coulda done it was the lack of voice in the
briefings.

It's still a good game though, so you needn't regret choosing it.
There are a lot of really bad movie tie-ins around, but fortunately
TFS isn't one of them.

I bought it and it crashed repeatedly on me. Maybe other people have
had better luck but I tried different configurations and it still
ejected me from the game over and over. I had read that it had bugs
but didn't expect anything like that. It went from my hard drive back
to the store. And yes, I was suprised that there wasn't more voice
overs, especially on a game made specifically for a CD format.
>To tell you the truth I don't know why T:FS hasn't really caught on.
Personally I think it's because it's so damn easy!!! I mean, the AI
is atrocious in the game. You can take out robots from very far away
without them ever even shooting at you! It kind of takes away from
the fun...
But I will admit that the environment is GREAT. That's the only
reason I stuck with it until the end. The central computer core at
the end looked AWESOME too...

I think it might be because of the lack of multiplayer. Nobody wants a single
player game these days.

Yeah, the AI could have been better. The mosters in Quake behave similarly
too. They get stuck on walls and you can bounce a gernade around a corner and
they won't come get you.
I liked that one level with the three rader towers. I never experienced a
feeling of hieght like that before. You climbs up and "freelook" down at the
ground... Cool.

I know what you mean. The whole game enviroment was really concrete.
It was almost as if you were there. I've never had a interactive
experience like that in an action game before.
I'd play it again, but since I upgrade from the 486 I played it on to
a Pentium, it just doesn't control the same. It moves too slowly,
almost as if the game is trying to render everything too
realistically.
Still though, I can't wait to see the XeGine in Daggerfall.
BTW, has anyone heard any news about that multiplayer patch?? Or is
it pretty much dead in the water. Lemme know via e-mail if you know
anything. Thanks!
-The Journeyer..
Or the construction site/warehouse area. It was awesome.

You might be disappointed since Daggerfall is in VGA only.

They've decided not to simply release a patch but to make a full game
(Skynet) instead. Its going to have SVGA graphics. Check out the Bethesda
website (http://www.bethsoft.com). Last I ask, the rep said Skynet is
coming out in October.
The addon is called "SkyNet" with multiplayer capability, you only
need 1 copy to play that way. It's also single player.Due out from
Bethesda in October, this from their web site.
SkyNet.
October.
See Bethesda's web site.
It looks like it will be a cool thing.
