Actually I just got it yesterday on the latest PC Gamer DVD...
and it looks pretty decent and interesting too!!!!!
I quite like it. A bit "cartoony" and looks like it was aimed
primarily at consoles. The weapons are quite nice, and the AI seem OK.
It reminds me of both Gore: Ultimate Soldier and Judge Dredd vs
Death.
It's going to get panned though I think. Not really a game for anybody
that is very fussy about the look and feel of their shooters.

I thought the TimeShift demo was fun (and the graphics were fine) and
I'm definitely going to buy it. The demo was way too short, but there
were so many fun things you could do controlling time that it's
definitely going to be a "must have" for me.
I just played through it. It's rather short actually, but I enjoyed it.
Will play through again a few more times to check it out some more.
Some rambling and babbling observations...
Graphics: Pretty nice...
- Had a fun time wondering around the city streets and looking up at
everything. Lots of details in the air, on the ground, everywhere.
- Some minor HDR effects when you look up at the lighted windows from the
nightime buildings.
- Nice (but somewhat typical; i.e. 'bullet time') effects when you invoke
the timeshift abilities. Seeing flames and smoke going backwards when I
reversed time was kinda cool.
Loved the weapons...
- 'flame gun' (don't know what it's called) is cool. Fires small
'fireballs' that causes enemies to catch fire and die screaming.
Alternate-fire makes it work like a wrath-causing flamethrower which is a
really nice effect.
- Kick butt grenade launcher. If only BF2 had this launcher! :) Grenades
blow up enemies into body parts and a pools of blood similar to FEAR. Not
quite as much of a bloody mess as in FEAR, though.
- Bullets: fire at a brick wall and the impact causes puffs of brick
dust. Fire at metal, and sparks fly. Nice touch. Random and
occassional ricochets effect when bullets hit objects.
- Don't like the crosshair AT ALL. Too big; the cursor changes color
when enemy is in the weapon's aim. Obviously meant for console. (This
was the one and only *blatant* aspect of the game that was 'consoley' to
me.) Hopefully the final version they'll allow some different cursor
options.
- Enemies' weapons seem pretty powerful. i.e., try not to get hit or
you'll die quickly. I think this might be on purpose in order to force
you to use your 'timeshift abilities' to get through firefights. Not
sure if I like that or not.
Enemy AI actually seemed decent. I took out all the guys from the first
truck that appears and then one guy still hiding on the other side of it
came around and tried to try and climb the truck to get to the mounted
gun at the top. I was very impressed when I saw him do that (and had fun
shooting him down midway up his scramble to the top). I've also seen
them take cover behind obstacle (such as telephone pole) when they came
under fire.
Running/walking - there's a difference between the two, but it's more
like 'walk' or 'walk slow'. 'Run' isn't fast enough.
Performance: With my AMD FX-53 and ATI X800XT-PE, I had the game running
smoothly at my LCD's native 1600x1200. Could NOT do that with my last
two games (FEAR nor COD2) without disabling or lowering lots of options.
Nice to see a new game that looks good that my hardware can handle; I've
been getting worried after FEAR and COD2. I had most everything maxed
out except AA and AF were off (don't really need AA to much at the high
res, anyways). I had initially tried those both on but was immediately
hit with a framerate problem so I disabled both. That fixed my framerate
right up. Didn't bother yet to see if I could enable one but not the
other. I also had shadows initially set at medium since they're usually
an issue in almost all games. Didn't try high setting yet. Everything
else I maxed out and framerate seemed very smooth.
Also, changing any graphics setting, the game seems able to change it
right on the spot when you hit the 'Accept settings' button without
forcing you to restart the game. That's always an indicator to me of
developers who know what they're doing. Too many games seem to cop out
and force you to restart for things like AA changes.
The demo download wasn't a complete waste but it wasn't quite what I
was expecting. There was some nice bump mapping in the environments but
the overall graphics were not up to FEAR/Quake4/HL2 standards. I knew
it was the same developer that did Will Rock, so they have improved a
lot but the game demo just didn't come over as being anywhere close to
next-gen. It seems like it could be fun, but the demo was running
really choppy on the machine I tried it on (my trashbox, not my main
game PC). I will probably get it but not at full retail. It had that
sad effect also of probably starting out as a PC game but targeting the
console version for economic reasons, with the usual downgrading that
goes into that growing approach.
> game PC). I will probably get it but not at full retail. It had that
How can you expect to change the low sales in PC Games if you
don't buy them full price?
How can you expect to change the compromises developers are
doing to PC Game titles so they can play better in consoles
when you don't buy PC Games full price and consolists do?
If Timeshift console versions sells more than the PC version
please explain me how can you expect the problems you write
about ever be changed?
And you have money cause with your hardware you can't be poor.
So if rich PC Gamers like you don't buy Timeshift for the PC
full price who will?
And you know very well Timeshift will unfortunately suffer
from piracy and buying full price is a way to compensate.
And unfortunately the majority of profits from PC Game sales
come from the first editions at full price.
And still you will not buy Timeshift full price?
PC Gamers like you must buy PC Game titles at full price.
Buying in the primary job PC Gamers have.
The thing about only masterpieces deserve the reward of buying
full price can no longer be applied to PC Games cause PC Games
is in desperate need for more sales and profits to survive.
We are talking about the survival of the PC Game market.
The most important thing a PC Gamer must do is to buy Games.
The other most important thing to do is fight against all
forms of piracy.
Lets all do our duty as PC Gamers, buy PC Games and actively
fight against all forms of piracy.
Have you heard of the concept of supply and demand?
I will freely admit that my initial reaction to the game was one of
huge disappointment. Having been a massive fan of the 2000AD comic
this was one game that I just couldn't wait to get my hands on
(anybody remember Rogue Trooper? I always thought that would make a
great PC game).
I did play the game through though, and I did get my money's worth in
terms of enjoyment. Having said that, I doubt that I'll ever get the
urge to play it again.
Not a classic, but a reasonable distraction is how I would describe it
when looking back.

Having now played through it three times I think that's the shortest
demo I've ever played.
I was disappointed that I couldn't map the strafe left and right keys
to the left and right arrow keys on my keyboard. The forward and back
actions were OK, but whatever I did with left and right always
resulted in my character turning left or right, rather than strafing.
I was also a little disappointed that I couldn't get a smooth
framerate going. No matter what adjustments I tried I could not stop
it from jerking noticeably about every 2 seconds when moving forward.
I think my system specs of P4 3.0 GHZ, ATi X1800XL and 3GB of 3200 DDR
should be able to run that game very comfortably, given the graphical
quality on offer.
My overall impression is one of mixed feelings.Ultimately though I
will probably buy the game. It's just about good enough to
sufficiently pique my interest in the finished product.

I sheepishly admit to playing WR twice. A cheesy Serious Sam knock-off -- as
if SS isn't cheesy enough.
I've been tracking TimeShift for a while now, and I noticed in the earlier
screenshots some of the WR HUD. I'll pass on the demo and wait to pick it up
this summer once a patch or two has been released.

The one off download.com (via Gamespot) is fucked. I d/led it with Opera &
it ended up blowing out to 591Mb (something wrong with the file sized or
trailer on the server I'm tippin). So I used GetRight last night, same
result. Well done download.com - in the same bucket as FucktardPlanet you
go!
Anyone know of *any* direct d/ls that aren't corrupt for this yet? *sigh*

P.S. instead of the 577Mb size it says initially, it eventually d/ls 591Mb,
which also hangs the entire explorer shell in WinXP, with whatever crap it
ends up dropping on the disk at the end. 2X590Mb=almost 1.2Gb of d/ls - who
do I send the bill to? Fuckin useless admins.

I got it on Bittorrent from 3dgamers.

And Rob the famous Budget Publisher Sold-out just released
"Judge Dredd vs Judge Death" in a budget edition with the
usual 4.99 price tag.
Totally recommended for any FPS fan.
Totally a must buy for any serious FPS fan.
I will sure buy this edition although I already own Judge
Dredd in the original Vivendi edition.
PC Gamers must all understand they must BUY PC Games and
actively fight against PIRACY and stop whining about all
the rest...

Though having just spent about 4minutes playing through it I'd say dont
bother.......
You know what it was in the end? You'll laugh...when you run the .exe, even
on my fairly upper mid-range system, it grinds & grinds & grinds for well
over a minute (up to 3?), before it actually kicks off the Installshield. It
may have something to do with the fact I only have ~10Gb of disk space left
on both of my 160Gb SATA drives *blush*...still, it's a pathetic attempt at
packaging imo, that gives no feedback of any kind (other than an busy
hourglass & locked up explorer shell ffs!); I can only imagine how long it
takes to get anywhere on lower spec'd systems :-/. Another strike for
TimeShit...one more & yer definitely out for good! >;-)
I think you might have some other issue. I just ran the install and after
double-clicking the .exe, there was about a _two second_ pause then
installshield started. Maybe not enough RAM to put the whole .exe into
memory and it was loading through your pagefile? Or, maybe not, I'm just
guessing what it might be. One thing is for sure: I agree with Shawk about
the game. I lasted probably 6 minutes... This is definitely not a keeper.

I got 1Gb of fairly fast DDR. The system is less than a year old & it was
top end back then. Yeah, something else may be wrong...probably need a
defrag - don't think I've done one since I've had it *blush*.
