Hi,

Just thought I'd post this message so that it'd float around Google's
archives and hopefully help a few people, 'cos I couldn't find the info I
wanted when I searched the 'net for pointers. I bought Star Trek Voyager:
Elite Force the other week here in the UK for about seven quid (Xplosiv
version pre-patched to 1.20, i.e. Jeri Ryan does 7 of 9's voice). I waited
for the 'bargain basement' version mainly because of the three most common
criticisms I'd read on the 'net; too short, too linear, incredibly hard
final boss. I loved the game right up until the final boss who I thought was
just impossible to beat without resorting to the god mode cheat. I played
the game through on Normal setting as Alexander and hardly died at all until
this final boss who I just couldn't beat. Hence, I decided to replay the
game as Alexandria on Easy setting just to have 200HP for the final boss
fight. I still died a few dozen times. I know this is an old game, but
seeing as it's probably new to my fellow 'bargain hunters' I'd better

Okay, here's the basics for fighting the boss. I'd already decided I wanted
to conserve 'blue' ammo after the 999 weapon energy power-up prior to the
elevator so I killed all the boss' minions with the tetrion disrupter on
primary fire. Just keep shooting. Handy hint, when the Etherians turn up to
help make sure that you kill the final wave of minions at your own pace.
Eventually you should be left with one of the guys who shoots concentric
blue circles out of his mouth. Get your health maxed out at a terminal then
kill him with whatever weapon you want to fight the big boss with (I
recommend the Photon weapon). Hence, I had 979 blue ammo and approx 350 pink
ammo after killing the last minion. Vorsoth's cut-scene starts as soon as
the last minion dies. (Incidentally, I'd love someone to explain this to
me - the Forge's shields are down, the dampening field's been eradicated,
the Seed's destroyed, so why does Alex choose to stay and fight rather that
just beam back to Voyager and sip cocktails in the Mess Hall whilst watching
Voyager blow the living c**p out of the Forge from a distance?).
Anyway, circle-strafe if you can. I know dedicated Quakers can probably
circle-strafe in their sleep but I hadn't played a FPS since Wolf3D and this
was a tall order. I configured left and right arrow keys as step left and
right to make things easier. Always Run HAS to be enabled unless you're a
double jointed freak who enjoys reaching for the Shift key on top of
everything else. But, the most important key is the QuickSave. I was
shooting entirely with the mouse (left primary, right alternative fire) and
set the ctrl key as QuickSave just so that it was next to the direction
arrows. N.B. only QuickSave if you've taken NO DAMAGE WHATSOEVER and you're
not two nanoseconds away from being hit by one of the boss' attacks. I know
hardened Quakers will probably regard this as wussy but I'm just writing
this for casual FPS'ers who want to get an honest victory and not a
cheapened 'god mode' cop-out (which I had playing as Alexander the first
time round). I emptied the photon weapon into the Vorsoth (primary and
secondary fire modes, depending on which mouse key my sweaty fingers were
hitting at the time) at maybe 60 to 70 per cent accuracy. Then I was
switched to the Arc Welder and probably had similar success, and I've
collected and used all the crystals on either side of the arena. I'm still
on 200HP from saving and reloading my game but the swine's still alive as
well and I'm out of ammo. I was prepared to finish him off with the hand
phaser if I had to when he hit me with two shots and, rather than reloading,
I decided to run for the power-up terminals which most walkthru's tell you
to avoid like the plague hence:

Okay, I don't know how or why this happened. Maybe it was 'cos I was playing
in Easy mode. All I know is I got an 'honest' victory. Gift horse. Mouth. I
run to the health and ammo consoles (behind one of the architectural struts)
and when I charge up my 'pink' ammo recharges itself all the way back up to
999. Weird seeing as I'd already used all the crystals. I pick the stasis
weapon (no idea why) and charge the guy, firing all the time. I still take a
LOT of damage but he takes more, keels over and dies. Cut to, er, cut scene
and you wonder why you bothered in the first place. I'm sure they just
recorded the canned laughter down the local bar. Oh, and I'd want more than
a simple promotion. If I can take out the Vorsoth then the Captain's chair
would start looking mighty appealing...
