What a ride! Can't wait to replay it when I get some real hardware, I had
to run it with forced DX8. ;0

Only the second game I've finished since the terrific Deus Ex game. Well...
I've finished Invisible War too, but that was abomination to the original
and don't count.

Just started it myself. I have to admit to being mildly under whelmed
so far. It's good, but I don't get the "wow" feeling I was expecting
to get after reading all the hype during the build up and in some
reviews since release.

DE-IW kind of grew on me the more I played it. I now find myself
looking back on the game with quite high regard. I will definitely
play it again one day.

It wasn't as good as the original Dues-Ex, but then that is a hard act
to follow. Maybe it's better anyway that the original remains an
unparalleled classic.

So true. I gotta take easy on IW too, I mean what game can really come
close to the original DX masterpiece.

I think I'm about half way through and I love it.
Gunfights are intense. AI is extremely well done and animations are great.
So what if some of the scenery is a bit bland when you can destroy nearly
everything in it apart from the bullet proof glass.Graphics are second to
none but most importantly in a FPS, the weapons are truly awe inspiring.
Realistic enough in their handling to make you believe that you really can
put a metal bolt thru someone's neck and pin them to the wall at 100mtrs ;)
The scoped rifle is a joy even if it's a little erratic(could be my jittery
trigger finger) and the particle weapon(rail gun) is easily the finest of
it's sort in any game. And, it's got save anywhere and loads of secret
areas.
I fail to understand why people have said it's boring.
Is it scripted and on" rails" ? Yes, as are all FPS shooters, even Deus-Ex.
Does it rip off Japanese horror flicks ? Yes. And they admit as much. Seems
like most American horror movies rip off Japanese stuff these days. So what
?
The game takes all the best elements of other classics and welds them into a
powerful beast of a shooter that not only plays well, it looks like a dream
.......if your PC can stand it ;) I have to lower my rez to 1024x768, but I
can then have all the other candy turned up full.
Terrific.
9/10

Totally agree but I also really enjoyed the story which a number of folk
have said is non-existent....

They could have made a better game that IW, that's for sure The consolitis
for one could have been addressed. Tiny levels, poor game controls, long
level load times, having to press OK to load the next level, same thing when
you die, crappy inventory managment, etc.

Didn't help that Warren Spector died repeatedly about the game (oh that's
fixed in the retail release).

I enjoyed it too, when I didn't have to deal with the above annoyances.
Unfortunately they kept cropping up repeatedly. And then there's the plot...

Well if your asking how about System Shock 2. The graphics we're poor (even
for the time) but the game itself is excellent and also (Like Deus ex) has a
RPG element to it.

The models were very low detail, but you can download a high-quality
model and texture pack for free. The game itself is the biz like you
say. I wouldn't say it has an RPG element, I'd say it's an RPG with a
shooter element.

For the life of me I don't understand why anybody raves about this
game. I swear that in my honest opinion Raven Shield has better
graphics than "Fear" and this IMHO has more to do with the way
everything in Fear is drawn rather than it's graphics quality.

I find the entire look of the game very underwhelming, there's detail
to it's imagery but it's looks poorly drawn, I'm not sure what the
correct term is but I don't like it.

I wish Fear had a better graphics engine because the game itself is not
bad at all.

My only complaint is that it seemed like the final bit looked extremely
rushed, as if they just slamed it through the door to make the deadline. The
final cutscene was all too predictable but I didn't get too upset over it. The
game up until the end was very enjoyable and I even got startled on a couple of
occasions which is pretty rare for me these days.

In many ways it was like a Dean Koontz book, fairly decent story, horrible
endiing but since the story is a lot longer than the ending it's still worth
experiencing.

The best I saw the AI pull off was in a room that had a bunch of crates and an
upper walkway, very similar to some of the HL areas just before you hit the
elevator to the surface. Enemy squad of 3 rolled in through a door on the far
side, upper walkway; immediately threw a grenade at me so I pulled back behind a
crate and waited for them to come along the walkway and down the ramp to the
floor. A couple of them did this, I killed one, the other was still shooting so
I ducked back behind a crate to reload. What I hadn't seen was that one of the
squad had vaulted the rail, he was already down on the main floor and had
circled behind me while the other two moved forward to get my attention. Had I
just keep shooting the second soldier on the walkway with my remaining 1/2 a
clip rather than ducking back to reload first, he would have come up right
behind me as I ran out of amm. In general I'm not very impressed by FPS AI but
this was indeed an exception. Unfortunately most of the rest of the
environments were too constrictive for much AI squad tactics but they did put up
a pretty good fight.

With my Radeon 9800 and P4 3.2 my 1st thought with FEAR was not good ...but
I find I can turn nearly all the settings to the highest at 1024 x 768 and
now its good graphics..
Dont think I have ever seen a game where the difference between 'med' and
'high' graphics was so great..
