OK, am going to upgrade my machine.

I asked the person who sold me my PC, and they suggested the Radeon
X1650XT Quad PCIE 512MB 4PORT DVI Dual DMS-59.

Any more economical cards? PS. Am partial to NVIDIA.

Upgrade it to do what? Run 4 screens or play games? How about at least
giving us the benefit of the information you gave to the person who sold
you your PC...

Yea, the 512meg 8800GT.

I looked up that card you're looking at and was just about bowled over
to see its over 400 bucks. I guess we have differing opinions on whats
economical.

It would be nice to know what your definition of economical is but
Tomshardware does frequent reviews of cards in each price bracket, that
would be the first place to look.

What constitutes economical?

An X1650XT is low-end; I assume that your remaining kit is so poor that this
would be considered and upgrade? What spec do you currently have?

You can get a Point of View 512MB 8800GT for < £100 now... if you remaining
kit is up to the task, this is what I would recommend.

$250 is economical for me.

That's what I couldn't get my head round. Why the hell would anyone
with sense pay so much money for that card to play games with???

The person who sold you your PC should be avoided like the plague.

Whatever you do, try to avoid nVidia 9800GTX. It's just a higher
clocked version of 8800GTS-512, which itself overclocks without any
issue. You can find 8800GTS-512 for $200 or less these days. That'd be
my recommendataion.

By mid-July, both ATI and nVidia will be out with new graphic cards,
but 8800GTS-512 is still a great choice.

8800GT-512 is another great option and is available for $130-160 at
few places.

I picked up an 8800GT OC 512 - my game rating leapt to 5.9. Did I tell
you my rig was a quad-core? ;) I spent the money for the quad but
saved by getting a rig with a graphics chip and biding my time before
picking up a card.

I didn't spend much. I spent $200 and my game rating jumped to 5.8,
