Can some kind sole (^_^) tell me how to complete phase 4 or
Mission 8 for Cannon Fodder titled "Jeep Jump" I've been trying to
get the jeep to jump, but it seems to fall and crash more than it
likes to fly over those reinforced bunkers. I can't find a ramp or
anything, and I've been patiently sacrificing a soldier each time
to test every inch of the cliff.

Thanks, in advance,

Andrew Sak

Drive the jeep off the cliff on the east side of the map which drops
straight down into the water. Then click on the sinking jeep to bail your
guys out before the thing explodes.

N.B. There's a walkthru for the first 12 missions of Cannon Fodder in the
last Game Bytes (#19?).

Can't quite remember the solution, but there's a guide in GameBytes issue
16 (and, probably, 17...I haven't seen that yet) for the game. Issue 16
is the one you want. You can get it at ftp.uml.edu in /pub/games/
Game_Bytes (or summat like that...definitely ftp.uml.edu though.)

Even though I highly doubt anyone will ever see this, I have to thank you "from the future" for helping me to figure this level out. lol even though I was playing cannon fodder back when it was new in 1994. I just kinda had to "leave my initials" here as someone who has appreciated an old internet conversation decades after the fact.

I can see it. And so do others here in .action

I would tell you to turn on word wrap but you will likely never post
again, so why bother?

Finally, as for Cannon Fodder, I never played it, but I have seen
footage of it on Youtube. The gameplay itself reminded me a lot of
Syndicate.

I'm just happy that Usenet still has some proven utility to people
outside of our cadre of dedicated fanatics. Besides, I can hardly get
upset about a fly-by lacking word-wrap when a number of our regulars
fail in the same way. So, hello stranger, and welcome. The door's
still open if you want to leave more than just initials ;-)

A very simplified "Syndicate" at that. I never really got into the
game myself ("Cannon Fodder", that is. I loved "Syndicate"). Visually,
it reminded me more of "Sensible Soccer" with guns, both because of
its tiny soldiers, and its fairly plain maps. "Syndicate" maps had a
lot more verticality and detail to them.

"Cannon Fodder" did boast the "name your troops after your friends and
then get them killed" thing, long before XCom made it a meme.

I see it too!

He's posting from google, the only way to get line breaks is manually
inserting them. Well if I'm feeling particularly proper, I'll write up
my text in notepad++ first, make the window 72 characters wide
and do a line split.

I tend to just eyeball it and type like I'm on a typewriter.

Ooooh, I love Syndicate! Something to check out!

It's rather sad how through no fault of their own the studio kept
getting tossed out like the proverbial baby with the bathwater. Lots
of bad luck.

I tried the first two demo levels of the web version of Open Fodder, as
I'd never played it back in the day I didn't have any nostalgia for
it. I'm sure I'd seen it or maybe played at a friends or something
very shortly as it seems somewhat familiar, but it didn't hold my
interest for more than a few minutes.

Here's the direct link to the web demo levels
https://s3.amazonaws.com/openfodder/OpenFodder.html

The Youtuber mentioned Parallax. I thought I'd actually played it, but
after looking at some gameplay vidoes, I don't think I did, or if I did
didn't get very far and again only played briefly at a friends or
something. I think I just had the title music on a tracker player on
the Atari ST, which was my favorite electronic piece at the time. It
still brings the tingles:
