Tomb Raider Legend: Climbing ropes?

I picked this game up shortly after it first came out and played quite
a ways into it. Then I got stuck in one level and set it aside for a
while. I later had to re-install Windows, and didn't bother to
reinstall TRL.

Now I've got it back on my machine and have restarted it. Most of the
movement is coming back to me, but I can't recall how to climb up or
down ropes. (the ones that you swing on)

I can't find it in the manual and I went through the first section
pretty quick so if they told me I must have missed it.

I'm in the flashback level and can't progress till I climb up a bit to
get a good swing.

Anyone want to fill me in on the secret? :^)

With 360 gamepad, you hold Y and use up and down on left stick.

I think [Action] defaults to [E] but I always set it to mouse right-click.

is, just after the spot where I needed to climb there was an onscreen
message explaining how to climb a rope.
