tomb raider: How to use Magnum Clips?

I've got half a dozen of them in my inventory, but
selecting them doesn't do anything. Forgive me if
this is a rtfm, but the copy I traded for is missing
pages 7-14 of the manual (sigh).

Thanks. I should have guessed. I foolishly thought they
were special clips for the pistols I've got.

YOU GOTTA FIND THOSE MAGNUMS.
