Hi all,

I just bought a budget (~9$) edition of Wing Commander, the original game.
But it is way too fast on my 486/66 . Can you point me to a way of slowing
down the computer?

Thanks a lot,

Matteo

Gezz, this game should be free now, it's so old.. I played it on my 286/10
Anyways, doesn't your computer have a turbo button or something? if
not.. look around on the dos ftp archives, there are lots of programs
written to slow down your computer..

In article <3eqvot$a...@ghost.sm.dsi.unimi.it>,

ftp to ftp.ea.com, get moslo from the patches directory. It can be used to
adjust the speed of your machine.

I had the same problem (WC1 too fast on 486/66), I tried moslo but it
would lock up my system everytime I tried to use it.

I may have gotten a bad copy but there is a better solution...

ftp to creative.creaf.com, get the file called 486slo.exe (this is a
self extracting file, I think its in the patches directory).

This program disables the internal cache on the cpu and brings the
66 into a really good speed for WCI. Run it once and forget it, it
doesn't hang around as a TSR.

Enjoy,

Switch off internal and external cache, that slows even an 486/66 down to
a fast 386. I played WCI with that setup and it was fast but playable.
Normally you can switch off the cache via the BIOS.
Have fun

Well, I guess that you got moslo.exe from the ea ftp-site?
I have tried to use it as well and encountered the same experience:
All that happened seemed to be a black screen.
But after I had a closer look on the file with diskedit I recognized that it
was self extracting zip file.
Well, to be more exact: a corrupt self extracting zip file.
No wonder that your computer will lock up after you have tried to execute
the program.
Next thing I tried was to fix the file with PKFIXZIP but this didn't help.
So if anyone knows where one can get a valid copy of moslo please tell me.

So long,

Werner

All of the WC2 series and WC1, SM2 (own executable) have the ability to
alter the time between frames. Use <ALT +> and <ALT -> to adjust (or was
it <CNTL>?). WC1 and SM1 (which use the same .exe) are the only parts of
the series that need to be slowed down if you're using anything over a
386DX33.
