With either Wolf (the full-blown 60 level version) or Spear of Destiny,
Many times the pushwalls move too far, and block the goodies.
For example, Episode six, floor two - the first pushwall moves
too far, and blocks *all* the other pushwalls, and *all* of the treasure.
It does not *always* do this, but it might be related to how long
I've been playing in one session. I've had it happen on two different
386's and my current 486.
Would the 1.4 release fix this? And can I get the 1.4 releases
without spending *more* money? Between the games and hint book,
I've spent about $100!
If the 1.4 fixes handle this, please help me learn how to get them both.

Actually, I've noticed in one spot in episode six, there is a pushwall
that doesn't always move... however, the reason is there is sometimes a
guard walking behind it... This could be the reason it sometimes sticks
and sometimes doesn't.....
Just a suggestion...

It not the last mission for nothing. You simply got to find the right
combination, which I can't remember but if you push in the first secret door
it will be "in the way" when you try the "right" secret door.
We had lots of trouble with that, before finding the way.

I said:
Then I received *nine* emails and one followup from people who didn't bother
to _read_ what I wrote, or didn't _believe_ it. Only the tenth email I
received indicated decent comprehension of what I wrote.
I don't want to be told "there's a guard behind it" or
"you blocked it when you pushed an earlier pushwall"
That's a whole different thing, folks, and I know how to get
past ALL of those. "Not far enough" is NOT what I wrote.
They MOVE TOO FAR. *move too far* _move_too_far_
Get it?
Only *one* person who emailed me had a CLUE that maybe I knew what I
was writing about. If I hadn't already deleted the first six, I
might be posting the names of the nine _clueless_ ones right here.
The specific example I gave has a map configuration similar to this:
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWW
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWW
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWW
WWWWWWWWWWWWW W WWW
P* WWW
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWW
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWW
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWW
You are where the '*' is, and you push the pushwall 'P'
It's supposed to move two grid locations and stop, so
you can go around it. Instead, it moves three, and blocks
everything.
Episode 6, level 2. This is the FIRST pushwall in the map. All
others on this level are *behind* it.
And there's one in Spear_of_Destiny where the pushwall moves back
and stops *on top of* one of the gold cups, making 100% treasure
impossible. This is into a room with NO actors or other pushwalls.
Get it?
AAAAAGGGGGHHHH!!!!
now, please, no more email unless you can solve THIS problem.
Followups to the group, however, ARE encouraged. Make a fool
of yourself, if you want to.

There is a DEMO available someplace by ftp.
This is a commercially available game. I paid $41.12 including tax.
Even if you *can* steal it, they deserve the $$$. PAY.

Well, this is true, but I didn't get yours until after I lit up
the flamethrower. At least you did go to the trouble to ask Shawn
to look into it. He's sent a suggestion, and I'm about to try it.
("stacks 9, 256" in the config.sys)
Since he said he'd been unable to manifest this bug, I'd be happy
to send a detailed description of my system, or apply any tests
you can suggest. Whether or not this config change fixes it, I'll
write Shawn, and if it _does_, I'll post about it.
I think, Jay, that you have a pretty good excuse or two for not carefully
reading my stuff. One, you can delegate to Shawn, thank you.
Two, everybody here hopes you're as busy as possible with DOOM,
cuz' you suggested once you might beat the release schedule
by "a few hours" and we hope you manage it.
In any case, your email was not a waste, because in addition to
misinterpreting me, you said you'd have Shawn look into it, which
I considered very good news.

I hav also been following this thread with much interest due to the fact
that this happens to me all the time ( both Wolf-3D and Spear versions 1.4).
I can think of at least 4 or 5 places where push walls randomly cover up
treasures that are placed directly behind them. I know where they are and
what I do (as a work around) is save the game just before I push them and
then if they go too far, I restore and try again (usually waiting a few seconds
because that seemed to help).
If this is a bug, I would also be very intrested in finding a solution. I guess
I always assumed it was just the id developers challenging me to figure this
out if I wanted 100% on all foors.
Bob, did you say that id suggested a change to your config file? (stacks 9, 256)
I'll try that and let you know. I am currently going through Spear again now
that I have version 1.4 to see the 100% at the end (previous versions only
gave me 57% when I knew better). Please let me know if you find another solution
works.
