Thanks Helmut and all you others for replying to my request for how to get
cheats working in Half-Life. My reply to Helmut's email wouldn't go!
Sigh.

I finally managed to open that sewer thing in the minefield and I have
moved on (God I hate cliffs!).

As for the cheats, I have tried 3 different ways to get them but no
success. Could someone send me a step by step list of what they do to get
the cheats working, please?

When I first played Dark Forces I thought I'd never survive - my husband
laughed at me all the time he watched me try to jump cliffs while pushing
myself away from the computer to get back from the cliffs, but Half-Life
makes my heart pound constantly! It couldn't be good for me.

when you start HL, type :

"hl.exe" -dev -toconsole

instead of

"hl.exe -dev -toconsole"

to
1) hl.exe -dev -console
2) F6 to load last quick saved game
3) sv_cheats 1 (enter at console)
4) restart (enter at console - this is what most people forget to do)
5) F6 to load last quick saved game (because "restart" takes you to last auto
saved game)

to
1) Run the program with the "-console" parameter. (No quotes, of course.)
Modify the desktop icon to do it.

2) Create a file in the "Half-Life\valve" directory called "autoexec.cfg".
Put the command "sv_cheats 1" in it. (Hopefully you've figured out by now
that you should ignore the quotes I'm using to highlight the important
stuff.)

That's it! You shouldn't even have to start a new game. Just load your
saved game, pull down the console (with the "~" tilde key) and start
cheating!

That is the ONLY 100% reliable way I found to implement the cheats. They
worked perfectly when those two steps above were followed.

Good luck!
