Take a chill pill, Eep. Not every game has to have first- person views.
I may have to check out Mafia eventually. It got a good review from IGN.
The screenshots look great, and the period cars look neat too. I read the
game has bump mapping in it, it would be great if somebody finally supported
it in a decent game.

Will the game offer an opportunity to switch into the first person
view (switch to first person view)
Many people ask for this facility and a game with this view looks
quite nice, so we are contemplating this option. If we do decide to
use it however, we might end up with a situation where the character's
hands and objects held in them (weapons) cannot be seen.

Obviously they decided not to, however since it's using the Hidden &
Dangerous II engine I'd be very surprised if there wasn't some console
command what would do it.

Eh, when it's an action game like Mafia (like Max Payne), it should at least be optional, especially considering the game already has SOME 1st-person views (in-car--though not actually IN the car but on the bumper and windshield front; sniper mode, and when the character is close to a wall the body will fade out and the camera moves into the character body). There's no reason a full-fledged 1st-person view couldn't've been implemented--especially since it's damn annoying trying to aim with the camera moving around so much in 3rd-person view anyway...

Hmm, I haven't seen any bumpmapping, but then I don't know if the GeForce 3 Ti 200 even supports it--and there's no option to disable it in Mafia's settings either.
And there are no registry settings (apart from what setup.exe--3D card and graphics settings--stores) or config text files to tweak--they're all most likely stored in the numerous *.dta files which are, as of yet, unopenable. Illusion Softworks is being VERY anal about their file formats...

The scruffy half-beards and acne on some of the facial skins are bump-
mapped. You seeing those at all?

Options? I haven't seen one good example of this type of action game that
demonstrates that the Developer or the Die-Hard Gamer that like Mafia or Max
Payne, etc. know what the word [option] means or give a rat's ass about it.
