Hi,

As at least some people think that magic carpet is hard to play
I would like to give you some of the tricks I use. But first
I must say that for me Magic Carpet has some real shortcomings.

1. The levels are up to a degree almost the same, there should
be more difference especially in graphics and tactics.
2. The levels are pretty long and there is no possibility
to save while in a level, this is the reason why I'm only
at level 21, I typ. play it only twice a week.

But apart from these I think the game is really ok and worth the money.
And now to my "tricks":

1. You can switch the spell while the game is paused.
Normally I start a level by switching to Pause (press P)
and take a look a the map (press return).
2. I start the the game with the castle spell and (if available)
the fast forward movement spell so I can run out every creature
until I find a good spot to build the castle (Don't bother
killing creatures, you can't store mana until you have a castle)
3. A good point for your castle depends on your strategie:
=> you can look for a spot where noone attacks you at first
which is ok for beginners. If you prefer this normally
water is what you look for but beware of the Octopus (or
whatever) they will destroy you/your castle in a blink of an eye
=> I prefer to look for real hot spots where lots of creatures
jump at me (p.ex. a swarm of bees), therefore I fly around until
I find a trap etc. and get killed and then give it a second try.
The reason for this is, that at lower magic levels (<=3) your
mightiest weapon is the build castle spell. All creatures around
your castle will be killed and you have an easy time storing away
all the mana. (It doesn't matter if you get killed as I stay around
the castle anyway). My spells at this stage are typically build castle
and posession. This has also the advantage that your magic is restored
faster staying around your castle than anywhere else. If it gets
really hot pausing the game to switch spells helps a lot.
Normally you can make it to level 3 this way within 3 to 5 minutes.
4. After being a level 3 magician you can start to toy around the world, try
to leave the magicians and the mightier creatures like the octopus and
the greifs (I don't know the name in english they look like flying
horses with a lion head) alone and take on the bees and birds
etc.. You should make it to level 4 then. If someone attacks your
castle defend it but don't bother trying to kill him. Remember
that in the castle your spells restore faster.
5. Switch to the flashs (the symbol with the two flashs) as fast as you
can. In my opinion this is the best attack spell and its the only
one that kills the greifs.
6. If some of the other wizzards always bother you try to set their
mana level below yours by attacking its castle and collecting the
falling mana. This is simple if your a level 6 or 7 magician and can
cast meteor spells, but you can use a trick at lower levels. Try to
locate a greif or one of the flying worms. Fire at it but don't kill
it and try to stay out of it's firing range by moving backward. The
greifs are ideal for this because they only attack when they are attacked
AND are only killed by the flash spell. Now fly over the castle of
the magician. Well it's a lovely sight to see two or three of the greifs
teaching someone else a lesson.
7. After being at level 5 you can start to take on almost everything
that is there. Normally I do a mixture of attacking/robbing other
magicians and trying to locate hidden traps/spells.
8. The most boring part is when you have reached level 7 and want now
to restore the world, there is nothing left that is dangerous
for you (maybe apart from the large flying dragons). As this
can take some time is also one of my complains.

Now some hints for the spells:

1. The (two)flashs: good auto aiming, kills also greifs
2. Skeleton Army: better than meteor to kill an enemy castle
(doesn't cost that much energy)
3. meteor: spectacular to look at, costs a lot of energy
but helps killing flying dragons or octopusses
4. return to castle: good idea to have this at hand if looking
for traps.
5. reflect spells: nice if you like duelling wizzards.

All the others (apart from fire ball/posession and build castle) I don't
use very often, so I can't comment them.

All of the above is naurally IMHO and probably totally wrong.
So don't bother flaming me.

bye
Walter

For those that these hints aren't enough here are some of the cheats
I picked up from the net:

********************************************************************************

To get to the cheat mode you need to go into the game. Bring the carpet to a sto
p and press I. Then type in RATTY and press return.
ALT+F1 - All the spells
ALT+F2 - More Manna
ALT+F3 - Destroy all players
ALT+F4 - Destroy all balloons
ALT+F5 - Destroy all castles
ALT+F6 - Heal
ALT+F7 - Destroy all creatures

SHIFT + C - Completes the level

I think these are in the right order!!

To get to a particular level type CARPET -LEVEL n (where n is the level number)
NOTE: You MUST cheat after using this as you will not be given any spells!
