Is it me or is this game 20 times harder than Mechwarrior Mercinaries?

one hit in Heavy Gear and you go down...(loose your legs to easy.)

I have the game in EASY mode, and am doing tour of duty. I passed the first
2 missions now I get killed every time because it makes me fight 3-5 guys
at once.. I run circles around them like I did in Mech2 but it doesnt help.

WHy is this game so hard? what is the secret to winning?

Practice using "tour of duty". It is possible and a lot of fun.

Have you installed the patch? If so did it create more problems then it
fixed? I had to reinstall without patch, because the patch totally screwed
the game up for me.

Not running around in circles for starters....

Gears are just slightly larger than humans.......they're not huge hulking
multi-ton mechs.......
they can't take a bunch of hits, neither can the Gears you start off with
in the game.

First of all, shoot for the torso and don't waste time trying to leg your
enemies......the enemy gears go down
as fast as you do, so good shooting counts. Also, use your other
weapons......

Try to use the terrain to your advantage......also, try not to engage so
many gears at once...and use your
"wingmen" when you have them.

Good Luck!

Well, for starters circling works great. I've played over 100 missions in
the "Instant Action" mode and used it to destroy Striders and Tanks with no
problems. The game is no different than MW2. IMHO crouching and sidestepping
are utterly useless against the game's AI.

Well, I am on misison 14 and I stopped playing because of a lack of time and
because I am wating to try the new Saitek stick/throttle combo on it as well.
Running around the enemy like you did in MW2 is not going to get you the
victory laurels. You need to find cover and use that to your advantage
(buildings, trees, rocks, slope of hills, etc) plus you must learn to use the
side to side abilities of your gear. That has saved my piddly little
mechanized butt a few times now. :) Also, if at all possible, lob a few
indirect rounds at them. Even if you don't hit, you can keep some fire in the
air while you reposition and I have noticed that if the enemy hits you with an
indirect round it will still hurt like hell so I tried it and it worked for me
too (geez, I sound like that doofus for Remington razors). :)

Hope this helps and good luck, soldier.

1. When you're in range of enemy gears, ya gotta keep moving or take
cover or they nail you, even with indirect fire. I like to throttle
forward at various speeds while sidestepping left or right- lets me
keep the enemy gears in view while firing at them. On the easy
setting, just moving sideways alone avoids most hits while you can
target and fire on them.

2. Manuever around the enemy so you can engage 1 at a time. Use the
radar to do this long range and use the terrain to do this at short
range.

3. Update your equipment regularily. Experiment with different
weapon types. Personally, I like the bazookas over rifles - harder
hitting, but you have to conserve ammo, be more selective.

4. Take wingmen with you. You don't have to use them unless you get
into trouble, run out of ammo.

5. Have you passed the training? Also, try the story scenario. It
will take you through various scenarios, some of which will be helpful
on tour of duty. The only mission that is difficult on story line is
mission 31.

Good luck!

Really? I've found the sidestep with some forward throttle avoids
most hits from any enemy units. Of course this is at easy setting.

I agree with your crouching observation. I can be crouching behind a
rock and still seem to get nailed with indirect fire.

Seems that tanks give me the most trouble - especially in some of the
later story scenarios (especially story mission 31). What's your
tactic/weapon strategy for dealing with them?

wf...@mindspring.com (Falcon Bill) wrote some good advice - ta...

I've got an auto-target upgrade that I can't get to work... is it
autotarget with a key press - or "I've targeted the nearest
enemy for you but you need to line up on it"?

Very addictive and immersive...

Anyone else getting a system/program crash sometimes on "I'm dead!" ?

HG then shuts down semi-gracefully with a page fault - no need
to reboot... it's annoying, but worth reloading for the gameplay.

Use a med rocket pack with laser work great against tanks. Tanks does fire
too much when you close in, they always try to run away, just keep the
distance close and hit it with all you got. Also, I notice if you keep
hitting it, they fire less at you. Mix in a heavy machine gun or light
machine gun for close range.

I once tried getting HG woking on an x64 Windows machine; had
absolutely no luck. So yes, it is impossible.
