I'm looking for a reliable mail-order company to buy a joystick from. I've seen CHIPS
& BITS INC in PC Gamer and Computer Gaming World magazines and their prices look very
good. They are located in Rochester, VT (800-699-4263).

Has anyone had any experience with them? Good, bad? Did you get what you ordered?
Did it come on time?

Thanks for any info!

I guess I'll follow up on my own posting...

I received two notes from people saying they got good service
from this company (timely and accurate).

However, I chose to order from ComputAbility instead. The main
reason was the shipping charges. Chips & Bits wanted $14
shipping for Gravis Firebird and $16 for CH Pro Pedals. At
ComputAbility the price was only $6 for both. Given that the
prices for the products were very close (Chips & Bits about $11
cheaper), the shipping made the difference. Also, I've dealt
with ComputAbility before and always had a good experience (not
to mention they are nearly next door neighbors).

Thanks for the input!

I got my ThrustMaster T1 from them. Undercut everyone's prices by at
least $20 (including shipping cost), got my T1 within 3 days. Very
reputable company. Recommended!

Not bad, although be warned that I have seen stuff on store shelves (new
releases) weeks before Chips and Bits ever sent it to me. For titles
already released, well prices are all right, but after you add shipping,
well I'm not so sure. Older titles can be found there, usually.

I have had a lot of good luck with buying from Chips and Bits and have
never been dissatisfied with the promptness that I have received my order.
Everything from customer service to packaging has been great for me. Now
to throw in a sour grape: A friend of mine recently ordered some
software from them and got overcharged almost $200 more than he had
ordered. When he investigated the unexpected charge on his credit card it
seems the person that rang up the order changed him for five copies of one
of the games he had bought. I think that was a simple mistake though and
just mention it to advise all who use mail order to check your receipts
for accuracy when you get your order.

I've been dealing with Chips 'N' Bits since 1987 and they're
wonderful. I've always gotten what I ordered, on time and
in perfect condition. Occasional returns of items that were
incompatible with my system were handled without difficulty.
I order something from them nearly every month. If you pre-
order items that aren't in stock yet, you get free shipping.
I live in Alaska, where a lot of mail order places gouge you
for shipping and handling costs. Chips 'N' Bits delivers
here in less than a week for in stock items and only charges
$4 per order for shipping. The sales people are mostly very
helpful and knowledgable about a variety of games and nice
to deal with also. In most packages, they send me a free copy
of Strategy Plus magazine. Their prices for software and
accessories are consistently good. They are also the publishers
of IE CD magazine--terrific game reviews, previews, demos,
interviews, industry news, patches, and other information. It
is the best CD magazine I've seen. I'd recommend this company
without reservation. Karen Woys

I ordered Win95 and Phantasmorgia for my son who lives in Germany. He got
them within days of my order and they only charged $6.00 for s&h. All the
ther companies wanted around $20+ for shipping to an overseas address.
The clerk was very polite and very helpful. I would highly recommend
Chips & Bits.
