I'm not trying to troll or badmouth whichever game you guys might love
I'm just speaking from the heart.

I'mm 30 years old and I hear how gamers today are on average of that
age but I fear whether I'm growing out of enjoying games or are game
simply no longer captivating me?

I've played all 4 of the game in the header and I really can't sya i
enjoy gaming as much as 3 years ago when AVP2, RTCW, MOH, JKII were and
still are games I enjoyed imensilly.

In Doom 3 I got as far as entering Alpha Labs but really I quit, the
guy is simply unbearalbe with all the darkness, either they let us play
with a gun and flashlight at the same time or I quit, maybe it's harder
this way but there's such a thing as being too hard or too irritating
and I don't feel bad about spending money on Doom3 but I'd feel bad if
I forced myself to play a game so irritating unplayable.

Q4? I really liked thta part where we go up to the mothership and there
a really cool "Aliens" militarysitic feel to it but beyond that it's
just a silly shoot'em up game with ridiculous enemies named stroggs
that look like cartoon monsters, I reall yfidn the whole game
uninteresting and it's a shame because it has potential, nice graphics
but the monsters are too childish.

Fear. It's not too bad but the state of the art graphics are okay and
nothing more, some of the levels you need a map not to get lost, it's
nice but it's not great.

HL2. These are the best graphics in the world? I'm sorry but the water
effects are stunning but everything else look normal but not
spectacular, the ground, the dirty, the wall, the faces of the
caracthers look okay but not worthy of the hype regarding the graphics.
I never played HL1 but this HL2 game is boring to me, the settting is
of a bad B-movie loosely based on a Orwellina nightmare of am
oppressive near future society. What is there to like about this game?
It's mostly runnign around in sewers and rivers in an Hovercraft? The
watre looks fantastic but is that it? Is that all there is to this
game.

I don't feel bad about the money spent on them but I haven't played any
of them to the end, not 1 of them is that interesting and Doom3 is
absolutely irritating, I mean it's very frustrating.

King Kong is as silly as the movie.

Battlefield 2 I played a bit, it's okay. Haven't go around to playing a
lot but felt like OFlashpoint with better graphics.

Chaos Theory has fantastic graphics and looks really nice although at
times the rules of engagement are irritating and too constrictive as we
cna't make noise, can't kill, can't trip off alarms, that's the whole
point but at times it feels like playing in an straightjacket.

San Andreas. Like GTAIII I like to drive around aimlessly, frankly I
find it very relaxing but I don't follow the objectives of the game, in
that sense "Mafia" was much more interesting than any GTA.

Call of Duty 2. It's okay but all these games look like MOH wannabees
and none really match it or maybe the freshness is gone out of this
genre of WWII shooters.

What am I playing these days? Mostly HL2, desperatly trying to get into
Q4 but it's very difficult to get excited over it, rarely trying to get
into Doom 3 but it's "desk thumping" calibre of irritation and some
"Athena Sword".

Late 2001, early 2002 really was an awesome time for games, AVP2, RTCW,
MOH were great, SOF2 wasn't terrible and my all time favourite JK2.

>>> I'mm 30 years old and I hear how gamers today are on average of that

I'm 32. When I get in a "gaming slump," as you seem to be in, I take a break
from it and read a sci-fi book or two. If that doesn't do the trick, I delve
into some artsy project that occupies my mind for a month or so. Usually
creature concept art.

>>> I've played all 4 of the game in the header and I really can't sya i
enjoy gaming as much as 3 years ago when AVP2, RTCW, MOH, JKII were and

I liked all four of those games, too. At their respective times, that is.
And many others.

There are mods available to add lights to the guns. But I have played both
Doom 3 and the RoE expansion twice in the manner in which the developers
intended. I mapped the right mouse button to toggle between the flashlight
and the last weapon selected. Hotkeys for specific weapons seemed to help,
too. I recommend switching weapons in intense firefights and then reloading
them only after you've wiped out everything in the area. Btw, the Vulgars in
RoE are the closest things to Aliens I've seen in a while. They also throw
fireball projectiles like the Imps and Hell Knights! Lightning fast, too.

I haven't played Quake IV or FEAR yet, but they're next on my list. :)

>>> HL2. These are the best graphics in the world? I'm sorry but the water

Graphics don't make it for me. It's the gameplay. For instance, the physics
in Half-Life 2 aren't merely a gimmick -- the level designers made it part
of the game. I admit, however, I find HL2 to be too easy in most places. I'm
currently replaying it, and I find myself relying solely on the Gravity Gun
and/or a single weapon to get through the levels. Other than the weapons
magically reloading after you've switched them (huh?), I wish they had
included one more harder difficulty level (along with bullsquids, alien
grunts and exotic weapons). If you consider the scope of the game, it's
really a masterpiece, Steam notwithstanding.

>>> King Kong is as silly as the movie. <<<

King Kong is a silly idea no matter how you look at it. :)

>>> Late 2001, early 2002 really was an awesome time for games, AVP2, RTCW,

AVP2 has an expansion, Primal Hunt. And there is Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy,
too. I also recommend No One Lives Forever 2. Same era.

Some other recommendations: Far Cry (with the developer save patch), TRON
2.0, Tribes: Vengeance, Painkiller, Thief: Deadly Shadows, Star Wars
Republic Commando. They all offer different types of gameplay and are dirt
cheap by now. Also, since you haven't played HL1, pick it up along with the
Blue Shift expansion (it also has Opposing Force throw in for free) and
apply the included High Definition Pack to all three games -- hours of Black
Mesa bliss!

Take a break or discover some old gems. Keep the faith!

Taking a break from gaming for a few weeks-months will do wonders for your
enjoyment when you return. Sometimes you get burnt out so much you don't realize
it ya know?.. :)

There's a duct tape mod if you really care but I suspect you don't - Doom 3
tried to squeeze too much out of a single concept (ambushes). I think the
developers needed to realize that if you try to make the whole game dark and
tense, it quickly becomes old hat to the player and it stops being
effective. One of the more effective parts of that game was at the start of
Delta Labs where the ambushes stopped happening for quiet a while and the
game relied on power of suggestion instead. But that was a definite
exception to the rule.

I actually enjoyed Q4 a lot - it's not innovative and the Strogg are pretty
silly but it did deliver a good weekend of pure fun for me, something that
too many games experience a basic shortage of.

Still sitting in my backlog - I'll probably get around to in 2008 or so...
(can you feel my enthusiasm - <sarcasm>)

Never played this, never will.

Don't think I have ever read a post that so gives allmost exactly my own
feelings as homem-de-nature....
Orthough I have played nearly all the same games My Love/Hate list would be
different ...but for the same given reasons..
I am many years older than 30 and I think its the games snot me..I've been
playing comp. games since early 1980's and I have never been so bored..
Maybe homem should try RPG's or adventure games...Gothic ..Oblivion
(soon)...Grim Fandango..Longest Journey..
Then there is all those Strategy games (which I have never got into) ..
And Doesn't EVERYBODY! love the Sims ???

I played HL2 from start to finish but I never saw 'the dirty'. Is this
some kind of mod like the nude alyx mod or hot coffee mod?

I feel the same too. I think it's some kind of 'illness' ,'overburned' state
in which
an old school gamer falls into when he/she passes 30 years of age. Consider
I have
been playing since the age of 8, 27 years of gaming have passed. I stopped
gaming
for a year. After the 'pause' I played doom 3 hl2 q4 and fear not really
'feeling' the game and now I play Black and White 2 only 15 a day when I
feel like it. Interesting game indeed. Are we getting too old for gaming?
I recall the ' pre romantic recklessness' of English literature as a match.
What do you thik about it?

You should try Planetside, the first MMOFPS . It's a game with a lot
more than 'run and gun'. It combines the action of a FPS, the
community of an MMO, and the strategy of an RTS game and provides for
lots of teamwork opportunities.

There is a free version of Planetside coming out around 2/14/05.

Come check out our outfit (clan), the Azure Twilight playing Vanu
Sovereignty on the Emerald Server. We do highly organized Ops-based
gameplay every night. We have all ages, from teens to 40s. We
maintain a mature, tactical environment both in game and on Teamspeak.

i think that youre right my friend. Couse i also see my self
like a stupid child when i play something that's iritating enough
to make me quit a game after a first level.
Thats all couse of commercials and game reviewers and critics!!!
You want to play you need to pay for a graph. card and you find also
that it is cheaper than a game on a DVD!!! :)
