I'm about halfway through playing the Saboteur and the map and save
points are making me crazy(er). Is this a flaw or how it's supposed to be?
The map seems to have two layers -- one with roads and buildings and
mountains and the other with markers (garages, NPCs of note, black
market shops, and district boundaries/names, etc.). If I zoom out the
'floating' layer moves to the point that it no longer aligns properly
with the roads and buildings, making it effectively useless. Anyone know
of a fix? Is this as it was intended? WTF?
I understand that the game lacks a save anywhere feature (I don't like
it but I understand) but it doesn't even seem to save at checkpoints --
only completed missions. This means that in a complex mission with ten
checkpoints (for example) if I complete 9 but get tired and save and
exit I have to redo all 9 again, starting at the beginning of the
mission. Is this as it was intended?
I'm enjoying most of this game but these two things are sticking in my
craw. Anyone have suggestions for a fix?
Thanks!

The designers of the landscapes & those of the
action characters & storyline must have been on different Planets.
That type of save system should be against Intergalactic Law.

I played it all the way through and I didn't find it that bad. I
usually hate games that don't let me save anywhere, too.
As for the map, yeah, that is really badly done. After using it a while
I started to catch on but it is, well, badly done.
It's effectively been that way for me too. You can save any time, but
I'm not sure exactly what's being saved. I fully plan to get back to
it though. I've been just running around trying to clear areas, not
doing the main game missions.
Thanks all for your replies.
I do enjoy the game and am becoming a very skilled racer. The
neighbourhood WTF (will to fight) black-and-while to colour system is
very clever, as is the system for when you are being watched, noticed to
suspicion is also nifty. I am clearing zones as I go too, love taking
down towers and installations.
I guess I should only play on weekends when I have a few hours at a
stretch to play in case the missions are longer. Usually I play games
late at night in bursts of 30 to 60 minutes depending on how tired I am
so it sucks having to restart the whole mission.
There's a fun game in there -- aside from these two major flaws.
