In case you managed to miss everything, comp.sys.ibm.pc.games (csipg)
has been split into seven different groups, of which this is one. csipg
will disappear in three months, which should be plenty of time to move
all discussion to the appropriate groups.
This unmoderated group is for the discussion of action/arcade games.
Action and arcade games are generally fast paced games which have a
simple goal, and usually require good hand-eye coordination. Examples
include:
Lemmings, Monster Bash, Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, Wing Commander, Xenon
II, Zone 66, Risky Woods, Gods
The rules are simple:
1) Everything posted on this group should be regarding action games.
Don't talk about piracy, how company X is great (or sucks), adventures,
etc. on here. If you need to talk about these, take them to the
appropriate group. When you Follow up to a message, you can change the
Newsgroups: line appropriately.
2) DON'T CROSSPOST TO THE OTHER COMP.SYS.IBM.PC.GAMES GROUPS. There is
almost _no_ excuse for crossposting, other than to csipg.announce, and
the possibility of crossposting formed the major part of the opposition
to the group split. If you crosspost, expect to get some (hopefully
polite) mail. "For Sale" messages are no excuse for crossposting.
3) Consider finding a common abbreviation for a game and including it in
the Subject: line of anything you post. For example, WOLF3D for
Wolfenstein 3D, WC2 for Wing Commander 2, DOOM for DOOM, etc. This
makes it easy to find (or avoid) posts for those games. This is all
done informally, nobody's "officially" coming up with abbreviations, but
people usually end up with one or two good alternatives.
4) TRIM YOUR QUOTED TEXT! If you "F"ollowup with included text, edit
the included text. You almost never need more than a few quoted lines
in a row on any particular thought. The idea is not to completely
recopy the previous poster's message, but to jog the brain as to the
gist of the poster's message. Quoting the previous poster's .signature
practically screams "Hi, I'm an idiot! Booga Booga!" Quoting more than
two levels deep is another space waster in most cases.
