Starting to shop around for 3d cards. Which should I get? I know this is
like opening pandoras box but I need to know. I have it narrowed down (I
hope) to the sierra card (rendition) or Monster card... any ideas? I
want one that will give me good 2d performance and excellent 3d
performance. Also would like people to talk about which is more
supported so far at least... thanks

If you already have a fast 2D card, get a Voodoo, UNLESS you *must* play
accelerated Indycar2 or Nascar2 right now, in which case get a Verite.
Also get a Verite if your current 2D card stinks, unless you have $300 and
two PCI slots available, in which case get an ET6000 or a Mystique *plus*
a Voodoo.

Got it? <g>

I own a Rendition card and it's pretty good, but I think the 3Dfx card is a
little better. I got the Rendition card because Nascar 2 supports it. I
am going to buy one of those $149 3Dfx cards sooner or later, though.

Assuming your 2D card sucks:

Wait a few weeks, and get the Hercules Stingray 128 3D based on the
Voodoo Rush chipset. Complete 2D/3D card. That's my plan right
now....

The monster 3d is an add-on card to your current 2d card... but I would
support it or righteous 3d over any other... get the monster 3d!!!

Completely agreed. I am hoping to buy a new P200MMX computer by May
(if my wife lets me <g>) and I hope to get a new Voodoo Rush with it.
Voodoo Rush should be compatible with current 3dfx titles, right?

I am running a rendition card with my lowly P-100 now. It actually
performs quite good and Tomb Raider is AMAZING with it. However, it
looks like 3dfx is going to get more software support (Pod, MDK has
3dfx version first, ...) and my next computer will have a 3dfx card in
it <g>

Yup, completely compatible with all current versions because its basically
the same 3Dfx chip with a 2D chip onboard too.
