Hi - I've got a 2.4Gig Intel and 9800Pro and my mboard has onboard sound.
I get strange sound crackling/interference especially at the start of levels
where our man is given his instructions, even if I turn sound performance to
low.
This sounds stupid but is this by design or is it my sound chip?

Assuming it is the onboard sound can anybody suggest a "value" (2.1) sound
card which will do the job.
Thanks

In a question about sound problems, why are you stating your video
card and not your motherboard and what kind of audio it has?

Look for updated audio drivers...or dump it and go with a decent add-on sound card like a Hercules or SoundBlaster (whatever).

I just tried the game in "sound compatibility mode" and there's no crackling
but the sound lags like hell and is unplayable.

In another Newsgroup somebody said that the Audigy2 "is the lowest CPU
resource hungry soundcard ". Is this true?

I picked up a 4.1 Sound blaster PCI super cheap (ok it's not an audigy)
and the sound is great, I think. I did have some crackling for a bit, but I
went in and just took my sound 'sample rate conversion quality' down one
notch and i haven't seen crackle since. That's something you could try,
it's on the advanced tab where you pick what speaker type you have in
windows.

Dunno, but crackling and SoundBlaster sound cards seem to be a recurring pattern. I have NO crackling on my Hercules DigiFire 7.1.

# Eep²

I have unacceptable crackling on my Creamware Pulsar II on the FarCry demo.

Huh? Next time quote what you're replying to (not just a name)...

Abit RAID motherboard + Soundblaster + holding down a key while playing =
crackling.
And as I understand it there is no fix.
