Courtyard on level 1 of DOOM: How to get out there

Has anyone been able to get to the courtyard on level one of DOOM? I have
searched for a hidden door, and when I finish the level, the stats say I
have only found 50% of the hidden rooms. Can anyone please E-mail me where
the door is?

After you've crossed the pool of slime via the zig-zag walkway, you
enter a corridor leading to a closed door. Just before you reach that
door, look at the wall on your right and find the different-colored
panel. That's the one that leads to the courtyard.

Okay, so we all now know about getting outside .. what about the
secret tunnel/room behind the imps on the ledge? How does one get
in there without using the cheat modes? Checking the map (yes, in
cheat mode), there doesn't seem to be any other entrance to that
area (nor a one-way exit), and for the life of me I can't find the
switch to make that ledge lower down.

There *must* be a way - either that, or it's a bug in the design of
the first level. :-(

Then there's the medikit outside (no, not where the pool/armour is)
with no exit to get outside (again, without using cheat mode); this
is the medikit on the "outside" left window if, after starting level
1, you take a sharp left and head up the stairs, then look out to
your left (left.. left.. left..). You mightn't see it as it's down
on the ground - again, only discovered when using cheat mode.

Anyone found any other next-to-impossible-to-reach places on the
other levels?

Dave, you will trigger the ledge when you walk past the slotted panels
behind the door at the end of the short tunnel (where you first see the
exit door). You'll hear the "graunchgraunchgrumble" as the door opens,
but you can't see it. The closest you'll get to watching it open is to
open the door, tab to mapmode, then walk forward. You'll see the outline
of the secret door change to yellow as it's activated.

Yeah, there's little "map bugs" on levels 6,7,8,9 - you can see 'em,
you can smell 'em, you just cain't get to 'em! Doesn't seem to affect
the secret score though - maybe a bug in the mapping algy.. aljor..
alogo... er, code.

Anyway, I have way too much fun chainsawing my way through the levels
in godmode to be on the lookout for anomil.. anemo.. er, suss spots.
