There used to be cool stuff on here, now it all seems to look like
horrible cell phone games.

https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly

Its been months of this, often there aren't any games on the entire
list I've even heard of. This weeks theme was "arcade" games... 8 bit
style graphics don't automatically mean arcade game. The only two I
recognized on this bundle are games I saw on Steam for less than a
dollar.

2100 buyers for the entire week with 6 hours left (at the time I write
this) makes me feel I'm not the only one wondering what the hell
they're thinking. Offer one or two decent games for 10 bucks instead
of a shovel load of worthless slapdick shit for 8.

Well, I'm not so sure that's a problem with HB as it is with PC gaming
as a whole. There are thousands of these "retro" and "indie" games
being released every year, and HB is just tapping into that. Steam is
as bad - if not worse - in this regard.

HB still has some nice sales; they just had a "Total War" sale where
you could have snagged four or five of the games for a few bucks. They
did a really nice "Heroes of Might & Magic" sale about a month ago too
(I completed my library of those games ;-).

Two things to keep in mind with the modern Humble Bundle: 1) they have
different sections now, so you often have to check the "Humble Bundle"
and the "Weekly Sale" to find the good stuff and, 2) there is a much
higher turn-over of sales, which means the "good stuff" isn't there as
long and the crap becomes more visible.

And - at least in my case- all these Steam, GOG and HumbleBundle
sales can very quickly empty out a person's wishlist, making it appear
that there are only repeats and dregs remaining.

No kidding, On Steam I've had a couple really good indy/retro games
(Rogue Legacy, Risk of Rain) which had kept me coming back for more, but
I'm now probably at about 10 to 1 of crap that hasn't been worth the time
to download, nevermind the price. The reviews on most of them have been
good enough that someone must like them, but they aren't for me, not to
mention it probably takes more of my time to read through the reviews
that it's worth to just buy and try instead.

Uhh... go one tab over to the main event, the Humble Total War Bundle.
Pretty muchn every Total War game ever made, except Attila: Total War
and Rome: Total War. They might not be your cup of tea, but the Total
War series is one of biggest, if not the biggest, strategy franchises
around these days.

I think you're mistaken. The theme of the weekly bundle that had just
finished a few hours before you posted was "Play and Create" and it
appears to have sold at least 56K bundles. The theme was games made
with GameMaker Studio, and included both GameMaker Studio itself and
the source code to the games.

This week's side show has a much better collection of games. The theme
is "Fantastic Arcade", taking its name from an event of the same name
at Fantasic Fest, a film festival in Austin dedicated to genre films.
The games in the bundle are all from this event. They're not supposed to
be arcade games, but a "glimpse of the future of interactive art, with
a cult flavor and an eye for the bizarre." Sureal games in other words.

http://fantasticfest.com/arcade/about-arcade

This bundle is exactly the sort of collection of indie games that Humble
Bundle made its name with. Sure they're all low budget indie games,
but that's all Humble Bundle offered for its first two years.

Here's the games offered in the first two Humble Bundles:

Aquaria
Gish
Lugaru HD
Penumbra: Overture
Samorost 2
World of Goo

Braid
Cortex Command
Machinarium
Osmos
Revenge of the Titans

The split is about 50/50 on games I have heard of and games I haven't.
I know at least a couple of them are pretty well regarded, Wolrd of Goo
and Braid.

Here's the games in this week's Fantastic Arcade bundle:

ALEA
CRAP! No One Loves Me
HOKY
Hellmouth
Risky Bison
Wheels of Aurelia

FEZ
FRACT OSC
Hotline Miami
LUFTRAUSERS
MirrorMoon EP
No Brakes Valet

I've only heard of one third of these games, but again there's at least
two well regarded games in the list, FEZ and Hotline Miami. The later
is one of the hottest games that the indie world has seen recently.

Again I think you're mistakem. At the time you posted this there probably
2100 sold with almost 7 days left. Currently the Fantastic Arcade bundle
is at 5200 with just over 6 days left.

So if by asking what happened to Humble Bundle you mean "Where did all
the big budget games go?" then you're looking at the wrong section of
the site. If you mean "Where did all the good indie games go?" I think
you're looking back with rose coloured glasses. If you had posted this
a month ago, I might have been more sympathetic, but by either measure
the Humble Bundle currently has a strong selection of games.

Well, Humble Bundle bears a fair amount responsibility for this "problem".
They, along with early Steam indie bundles, pretty much got the whole
indie ball rolling.

I'll probably get the Total War bundle. I have most of the games in the
bundle already, but $15 is worth it for the games I don't have. I passed
on the Heroes of Might & Magic bundle. It was similar situtation, but
UPlay tipped the scale to not buying it. I did pick up the Tom Clancy
bundle despite it being all UPlay games, but it was also all games I
didn't already own.

I also find myself deciding to wait and see if a bundle with a better
mix of games comes along. I know I passed on a couple bundles including
Total War games, and that worked out well.
