Well, after two months of hard work, the first level (Contamination)
of INVASION is finished. It has been uploaded to ftp.uwp.edu,
infant2.sphs.indiana.edu and wuarchive.wustl.edu, and is called
invade1.txt, invade1.zip.

Invasion also has a coherent 9 level storyline, and Contamination
comes with an animated prologue and epilogue, both with sound.
The files are invpro1.txt, invpro1.zip, invepi1.txt, invepi1.zip.

Enjoy, and all comments are welcome.

Well after seeing the prologue and epilogue mini-"movie" and playing for about

an hour or two, my comment is: WOW ! Excellent work !

There are a LOT of graphics changes (nice effect on the status bar) and the

music replacement is also very good. The mini-movies are FANTASTIC and a
definite first in the HomeBrew DOOM level-makin' scene.

While there are excellent levels, utilities and map creating programs pouring

in from all over the World, it's nice to see us Canadians holding up our end
of the DOOM thang ! Not only is this innovative package done by 2 Canucks ( I
assume, since they're at McGill U.), but others are also developing some
"ground breaking" designs. I've read where two others are doing projects that
replace graphics, sounds, music and more to plunge us into the DOOMin' worlds
of both StarWars and Aliens; I've been fortunate to get a sneak preview of
some of the graphic changes for StarWars and they look greeeeeeeeeeeeaaatttt !

Hmmmmm....maybe it's got something to do with the fact that all Canadians are

Lumberjacks, and hence experts with the chainsaw, .....eh ? ;)

Take it fom a DOOM Master. Someone else maybe? Nah. Okay, you type:

DOOM -FILE (.WAD file(s)) (additional options)

You can patch in multiple WADS in if you are using the first version of
INVADE1, because you can patch in the level, the graphics, and the
music/sounds.

Just as another question, does anyone else have this wad lock up on
them when trying to save? I've played some of the first level, and whenever
I try to save, it just locks up. Anyone have any ideas? My system is:
486DX33
4MB Ram
MsDos 5.0, Norton Dos 6.01 (Norton Utils), and Stacker 3.0

Thanks for any ideas

This is a very stupid question I'm sure, but I'm hoping someone will
show sympathy for a new DOOM hacker.

How do I incorporate this level into DOOM?

The StarWars patch that I've seen was quite a while ago and replaced just
a few of the graphics in DOOM; I imagine he has *quite* a bit more done by
now (actually I KNOW so). Not sure of an ETA; he's doing it solo, so I
think he alternates between graphics work and actually level design to keep
it from getting tedious. It's the same guy that did the SWSFX.ZIP sound
patch, so that part has been virtually completed. He's also using scanned
images for graphics, so expect top rate replacements.

I'm not 100% sure about that, but I imagine so since the chainsaw sounds have
been replaced by the sabre. I'm looking forward to it BIG time !

I'm a newbie.
I cannot find the DOOM faq.
I have never put in a third-party level.
I have just downloaded starwar1.zip
I have no idea what to do with it.
I would be very grateful for help.
I thank you in advance.
I am your humble servant, Lucian.

Well, I downloaded the whole thing (it's about 4 megs zipped up
in three files) and the "pro" and "epi" are great, as is the
whole game. My only problem was when I tried to save the games.

The first time the whole system completely locked up on me. The
second time the game saved all right, but when I exited DOOM I
got a "Could not load COMMAND" error, which I have _never_ seen
before. And when I tried loading the same game I experienced the
wonderful, blissful feelings of lockup.

If anyone has a clue about what causes this or had it happend to
them and thinks they know how to solve it please let me know.
Thanks.

Daniel.

Wow! This will be the FIRST level? Oh, my oh my.

I spent a few hours getting through and entertaining myself with this
one, so these are initial reaction comments. In general, I like the
strategy and figuring out stuff parts the most, so I always enjoy a good
challenge in this area. This level does not disappoint.

The beginning is great! Action packed! Puts a great quick VETO on those
who want to play a perfect no hits, no mess, clinical run through of a
level. Plenty of ammo, too. No ammo struggles on this level.

There are plenty of "gotcha's" waiting for the first timer on sections
of this level. "Hmmm, this section looks dangerous, I'll run and quickly
check out this mini-room here...hmmm seems to be hidden...ok, now I...
what???...falling???...ACID!!!!...eeeek, being eaten by an invisi monster...
AHHHHHH...crushing ceiling!?!?!?!---dead, guess we start again." Or, how
about, "Whoa, seems a slew of demons just got activated, here they come,
better retreat and pick them off...chaingun...ptptptptpt...one...ptptptptpt
...two...hmm, there seem to be a lot of them...retreat more...ptptptptpt...
retreat...uh-oh...in corner...ptturnptturnptturn...wonk..ptpt.wonk.wonk.pt.
pt.wonk.wonk.pt.wonk.wonk.wonk.pt.wonk.wonk.wonk.DEAD... Ya know, I really
wasn't expecting that many demons." Excellent work!

I'm not sure how I feel yet on the super secrets (I've gotten 5/7, but
I haven't scoured the level yet). "Wait, that supercharge room, is *NOT*
on the map. Isn't that cheating?" Ok, maybe you have to earn your
secrets.

Overall, however, I'd have to say this level is extraordinary. An absolute
essential wad. Redefines some of what I thought were the tricks of the
game from playing the standard ID levels. Can't wait to see what comes
next!!!!

And let's hope that future editors make these WAD file faster. Even my 486/66
(8Mb) has dificulties with this wad.
But i totally agree that it is a great level!

There's too much in the level to allocate enough memory to save the game,
so Doom quits. Unfortunately, there's also not enough memory to reload
COMMAND.COM, so the system crashes.
