Grabbing the DirectMouse driver will not help. You will never
get it to work.
There is just no mouse code in that version.
As to the joystick and spinning issue:
That version of Doom95 wants to see a joystick in 'slot' one in
the joystick panel of the control panel. It is this joystick
that it will try to read.
If you have a joystick configured in 'slot' two, you will spin
hopelessly.
Set 'joystick 2' to 'none' and your spinning problems should
go away.
These issues have been addressed and resolved. They will not
be problems with the final official release.

I don't know about the MS Sampler DOOM version, but the initial
spinning problems I had in DOS windows in Win95 were solved by making
a shortcut to DOOM.exe, then changing the shortcut properties in
'program -- Run' to 'maximized' and checking 'full screen' in the
'screen' section. I also unchecked 'enable screensaver' and 'fast
pasting' and set 'idle' to the minimum in 'misc'. I also found that
you need to set the various memory amounts to at least '2048' on
'initial' and '8192' in the others to get everything to work smoothly.
All this eliminates jumping back and forth to DOS mode just to play
DOOM. These settings also work with the 'D!Zone' series, the 'Maximum
DOOM/Master Levels' CD and also with Duke3D (although with Duke there
are a lot of other things in Duke's .cfg file you need to mess with as
well). They'll probably work with most DOS games you want to run in a
window; at least, it's a starting point. Hope this helps!
