We have a client with an RS/6000 with unix terminals attached. The app that
is running will be replaced by an AS/400 application. We a telnet/5250
product that we can use so users of these vt100 style terminals to the
AS/400.
In the past IBM had a licenced product called "Connection Program/400 for
Unix environments" which we used sucessfully from older versions of AIX but
they dont sell or support it anymore and suggets 3rd party products.
I know we can simply telnet but you cant emulate the necessary 5250 keys
without a "spoecial" telnet/5250.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Mark
There are also some freeware 5250 programs that youcould compile for AIX,
probably with
only a little trouble.
Finally, a 3270 terminal program can often be used sucessfully in place of
5250 telnet. It only works for a couple of 5250 terminal types, but the
fastest way to know is to try it. There are several 3270
emulation packages for AIX.

Mark,
You might want to consider IBM's Host On Demand product. It provides
for VT100, 5250, and 3270 emulation. It also supports SSL. The product
is a series of Java Applets so essentially all you need is a browser
with a JVM.

I find it absolutely amazing that IBM sells RS/6000 and AS/400 and there is
no product available for the RS/6000 to get good, easy to use 5250 emulation
to a host AS/400.
They used to have a product called "Connectiopn program/400 for unix
environment" but that isnt sold or supported anymore. We used this at a
number of sites quite sucessfully several years ago and in fact still have a
client using the program on an old rs6000 running aix v3.2.
Basically the client is saying if they cant use these terminals then they
dont want to use our application, which we host on a central AS/400 located
in Sydney. Only 10% of the users have a PC at present and they dont intend
changing.
anyway......perhaps this is another little indication that as/400 and the
5250 environment is dying.

Either I don't understand your problem or you need enter GO CMDTELN
and check out the SETVTMAP, CHGVTMAP and DSPVTMAP commands. It appears
to me that will solve your problem.
