I am not sure if this has been asked before, I just joined today.

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to get a spool file into M$
Excel (either into Excel format or comma separated values). I am trying to
do this with out purchased software. One of my co-workers stated that she
saw this at COMMON, but we can't find the information anywhere. What it did
was assign a function key to output report directly into Excel. (Or
something like that). What we are trying to do is find a user friendly way
of doing this. Even if this isn't possible, if anyone knows of an easy way
to import into Excel, I would welcome the suggestions.

BTW - This is a report with numerous calculations in the background. And we
would like a solution that would work for many different reports, not just
one.

In the december 2000 issue of NEWS/400 is tip about this.
In short:
first:
CPYTOIMPF FROMFILE(<library>/<file>) TOSTMF(<stream file1>)
RCDDLM(*CRLF) STRDLM('"') FLDDLM(',')

next:
COPY OBJ(<stream file1>) TOOBJ(<stream file2>) TOCODEPAGE(*PCASCII)
DATAFMT(*TEXT)

where <stream file1> stands for QDLS/<folder>/<file.TXT>
and <stream file2> stands for QDLS/<folder>/<file.CSV>

This way you wil have a CSV file which can be read by excell (Comma
Seperated Values)

hope this helps

Hello,

My company sells an AS/400 command that can convert a spooled file into
an Excel(.xls) file. Check out our website at http://www.kemetech.com

James:

Does your company offer a trial version of the program?
Cause It is really hard for someone to see how it will work etc.

thanks
