It seems impossible to connect PCs using autosync modems.
Does anyone can help me and indicate how ?
Thanks

It is NOT impossible and it does work... but the software must support
the method... At least these two do work: Synapse & Micro Intergration
IBM Personal Communications is supposed to work, but I have heard that
it has problems.....

What software are you trying to use ?????

You can connect the modems to the AS/400 via an ASCII controller. I have 4
Sportster 28,800 modems connected this way. Only supports VT100 emulation.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the ASCII WSC has nothing to do with
Autosync type modems. One possible use of the ASCII WSC is to
put simple Async modems on it and dial up the AS/400. Yes, You
can use plain VT100-emulation, but it is practically useless on the
AS/400. A better solution is to dial up with Client Access configured
for "Async Connections".

Autosync modems are used to (for example) connect a PC to the
(Sync) ECS-modem without the need of a "SDLC-Card" and a Sync.
modem at the PC. The Autosync modem lets You use the COM-port
instead, converting the Async datastream from the COM-port to
Sync (so that it can talk to the Sync ECS-modem).

This used to work very well when I tested it a couple of years ago.
The program I used was "AVITEL" from www.powerbit.com

Kind regards
Bengt.

Autosync allows you to connect to an AS/400 SDLC (sync) line using a normal
comm port on a PC (instead of an SDLC adapter). Then only way I have had
any success with this is with a Hayes (not a compatible) which supports the
Autosync option.

The line and controller descriptions must exist and be varied on. The line
must be configured to autoanswer.

Ron,
Autosynch has NOTHING to do with the ASCII Workstation Controller.
Hayes Autosynch menas that your modem supports the dialing in asynch
and then switches to SDLC when connected. You CANNOT do this with an
ASCII WS controller. You will need a synchronous modem on the AS/400
end connected to a standard com port.

For information, I give you a configuration who work perfectly for me:

- PC software: NS/Portfolio (with the good NS/Router for engine) for AS400
V3.11 (and NOT V2.21) AND DOWNLOAD THE PATCH on
http://supportweb.netmanage.com/patches/index.asp
- Modem Hardware: ARN MD Nota 33.6 AUTOSYNC Modem. More informations
available on http://www.arn.fr/ (english available. Download Acrobat Reader
for get information with .pdf file about modem capacity and informations if
you need it...

If it can help you,
Bye.

I use a Digicom SNM 46 F and a SNM 46 SR
Both have Autosync feature.
One is 14.400 and the other is 28.800. (Don't remember wich one)
