Hello,

when I try to create a printer file with 378 characters/line, I get the
following error (sorry - german OS-Version):

* CPD7874 Nachricht . . . : Zeilen- oder Positionswert größer als 255.

(Means something like "Line or position value greater than 255")

Where is the limit of 255 characters/line defined and how can I increase
it?

Any help or pointers greatly appreciated.

TIA
Klaus

Klaus:

While you can have a printer file with a width of 378
character positions, within DDS, you can not locate a filed
past 255. This is spelled out in the DDS Reference: Printer
Files under the Location for printer files (positions 38
through 44). This book can be found in the Infocenter under
the database section header. You might be able to start the
field prior to 255 and space it over manually although this
would be problematic with typographic or outline fonts. The
support for greater than 255 positions is most useful for
program described printer files.

Hi Kevin,

many thanks for your answer. :-)

I looked it up in the DDS Reference and your're absolutely right:
it is indeed a DDS limitation.
