What is the easiest way to copy programs or files from one partition
to another on an i5. Both are at V5R4, however, they each have a
different tape drive model.

Thanks,

Assuming you have a virtual lan betwenn partition, if you have Object
Connect (that's an OS400 free opton) installed on both partitions you
can use SAVRST* commands.
Otherwise you can ftp save-files or copy save-files to the remote
directory created into /QFileSvr.400 file-system using cpytostmf command
and restore them with cpyfrmstmf command.
With V5R4 you can also create a virtual tape or dvd that uses a stream
file as data holder.
If you need to copy objects between partitions on regular basis, I think
the 1st method would be the best.

I copy files all the time. I save the files to a savf, ftp it to the
other lpar, then restore.

I am a vendor, please stop reading if you don't like vendor
responses.

LaserVault Backup is our disk to disk backup system, you can savliblv
to a pc server, then restore to a separate lpar or machine, locally or
remote. To save a bunch of libraries,

SAVLIBLV LIB (*NONSYS) SERVER(1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8) saves all libraries
using 8 backup streams to the pc server and creates the backup set.
Then from the second lpar or AS/400 you can select the backup set and
restore everything, or selected libraries and objects.

You can automate this, and if you use 10 GBE you can go 5 to ten times
faster than LT03, if your I5 can go that fast.
