I've been reading here that FTP is many times faster than client access
for getting files from the as/400

So now I am wondering, what do I do to get spool files from the AS/400
thru ftp? can I get AFP and IPDS files? Can I restore spool files from
the PC to an AS/400 outqueue? Can I read the spool file attributes? If I
can restore spool files, can I restore the attributes?

How fast is it?

If anyone knows the answers to these questions, please enlighten me.
Thank you.

If you are only wanting to print your AS/400 output on network printers
consider using LPD/LPR it can support SCS, and AFP/IPDS output in many cases.
(Although whether it is faster than CA/400 printer emulation is questionable)

Transferring a spool file with FTP is almost always more trouble than it's
worth.
1. You can only transfer *SCS output (no AFP/IPDS). You must use the CPYSPLF to
a physical file.
2. Then you must FTP the physical file.
3. You will lose any attributes. Including pageing, fonts, underlines, bold,
etc...

Unless he is on V4R2 (in which case I don't know) LPD/LPR is definitely not
faster than CA/400 printing. LPD/LPR has to convert the print file from SCS
to ASCII before transmitting.
