S/390 - AS/400 job submission via SNADS

It's stuck in my mind for some reason that remote job submission between an
as/400 and a mainframe is not supported. Files, messages, and spooled
files are ok. Does anyone know if there is any validity to these
assumptions?

IBM has a product caled RJE (Remote Job Entry) that
allows a JCL stream to be sent to the mainframe and placed
in a job queue.

Well,

I know that it is possible to submit jobs from an AS/400 to a VSE/ESA
system via NJE. The SBMNETJOB command allows this.

It is also possible to submit a job from a VSE system to a 400.

A good example specific to VSE and the AS/400 is the redbook:
VSE/POWER and OS/400 NJE Configuration Examples - GG24-4259

I'm sure there are other books for VM and MVS as well.

also, IBM FTP server for MVS can accept a job stream as input and
submit it for you. Just normal FTP from as/400 with a few quote
commands.

Parke,
I did this at a previous job between an AS/400 and an ES/9000. The
first thing you need to do is get the communications up between the
mainframe and the AS/400 (hint: if something is wrong, it is wrong on the
mainframe's side). Then put the JCL in a file on the AS/400 and issue the
command to submit it (I think it is SBMNETJOB), giving the file name and
userid/password.
This is one of those things that can be a real pain to get running (we
spent a while on the comm setup until I pulled out a Redbook and showed
the mainframe guys the AS/400 to mainframe setup), but once it is up is
seems like it was no big deal.
