we are wanting to put our file transfers in one batch job stream. We
want to transfer files from the 400 to a PC on the network that has
client\access. We found ftp on the 400, but it looks more like
something to transfer to another server. We also want to export this
info into an excel file. What is the best way to go about this?

In article <88232da8.01080...@posting.google.com>,
garymas...@hotmail.com says...

1) Get an FTP server for the PC and use FTP in batch on the 400 by doing
an OVRDBF FROMFILE(INPUT) TOFILE(srcmbrftp)

2) Use the RUNRMTCMD AS/400 command to send a command to the pc to start
a file transfer. The file transfer could use FTP, or CA's RCVFROMPCB
file transfer command. Note all Windows PC running Win 95 and higher
have an FTP client included...just do FTP from a command line, and by
using the -s parm you can automate the process.

3) Check out the CPYTOIMPF command on the 400. In particular, the TOSTMF
parameter can be used in conjunction with the AS/400's /QNTC file system
to copy directly to an NT PC's shared folder. You can find out more about
the QNTC file system in the IFS manuals. But basically, you access it
like so: TOSTMF('/QNTC/PCSERVERNAME/SHARENAME/file.txt')

We use a shareware FTP server program on the PC we wish to transfer
files to.

Hello Gary,

If you're interested in exporting a database file and sending via FTP, take
a look at the CPYTOIMPF command and also performing batch FTP.

If you want a commercial solution that's ready for this out of the box, take
a look at our FTP/400 and DataExport/400 software. You can job schedule your
file exports and data transfers from any AS/400 job or job scheduler.

If you're interested in discussing your needs, please contact me directly or
take a look at our web site.

Hi Gary!

I'm working on a product "iExcelgen" which is able to put as400 files
to excel-spreadsheets in one step.
It runs completly on the as400 and outputs the excel-file to ifs.

The product is now in beta-state, if you are interessed send me a
eMail.

Hi Gary,

did You try the facilities of data transfer in Client Access? You can

Hi !
Another commercial solution about the Excel part...
We have a product, Launcher/400 that enables you to launch Excel from your
AS programs, transfer file in csv format, fill the sheet line by line, or
cell by cell, with many other features (properties, save, print). It doesn't
need CA and it also works with Word and Outlook or Exchange.

You can have a look at www.easycom-aura.com or ask in...@easycom-aura.com

Hello

Taken a look at our CVTDBFXLS (Convert Database File To Excel) command.

Creates native .XLS files on the AS/400. Can include formulas also.
