Hope everybody is busy making Y2k schedule and contingency plans, but still the problem and querry as usual arise .

My querry is that I want to transfer a spool file to excel worksheet . Is any free method available for the same, i.e any OS/400 command like copytopc or so.

Thanks in advance.

With Best Regards & Happy Y2K uptime
Rajesh

SPLTOOL will do this. You can transfer it to a .txt file with the
headings stripped out (F17 key on the copy to xxx comand), open the
file in Excel, and it will pretty much auto format for you.

Copy to xxx means using the Folder, IFS (Stream File) or FTP options
for download that are available in SPLTOOL.

You can download at:

Hi Rajesh. First, I do not know of a command that will do what you ask..
The best 'free' way I have found is to create a physical file 132 long.
CPYSPLF the spooled file into that data file. Then pull the data file down
to the PC using Showcase/Query.. I can set up an SQL statement on the PC
using substrings to define the columns, then run the sql and save the
results as a spreadsheet. Course this method is not free if you don't
already have showcase/query!

Anyone know who sells the EZ Pickin's software? (or some phonetic variation
of that name).. We have used that package to download from spooled files to
PC spreadsheets..

You could use the Operations Navigator and open printers and drag and drop
the spool file on to the desktop.

The "drag and drop" method didn't carry the space line. Can it be fix?

You can use CPYSPLF and CPYTOPCD or CPYSPLF and CA/400 file tranfer to
transfer AS/400 report files for FREE, however there are multiple manual
steps involved. CA/400 also supposedly has a drag/drop interface built into
the Operations Navigator.

My suggestion is to save yourself some time and purchase a product such as
our WinSpool/400 report download software. You can download reports directly
into MS Excel and many other formats.

Check out our web site for more info.

You could try my SPLTOOL software. Use it to download the spooled file
to a text file and then open it in excel and let it autoformat.

SPLTOOL will retain spacing, and allow you to remove standard headings
from every page (for example if headings are on lines 1-5 of every
page, they can be stripped.)

You can download it at:

Let me know how it works for you. I've used this method many times and
it saves a bundle of time when folks want to "play" with data on thier
own box.
