Not sure exactly what you mean but if your application can output ASCII
data, you just need to override the printer file with DEVTYPE(*USERASCII)
to tell the AS/400 the data is in ASCII format.

IBM AS/400 communications, FTP automation, and network security
software and consulting services.
How are you planning to move the file to the PC once it's created? If you use
FTP, for example, you specify the ASCII FTP subcommand before the GET and the
conversion to ASCII occurs during the transfer.
Perhaps it's a problem that just doesn't exist.
