Hoi Bob,
try CPYTOSTMF(from EBCDIC to ASCII) , FTP or XCOM etc.. Take care with the
different code pages and translations.

Not sure exactly what you mean but if your application can output ASCII

data, you just need to override the printer file with DEVTYPE(*USERASCII)

to tell the AS/400 the data is in ASCII format.

To convert to ASCII using CPYTOSTMF do you always use STMFCODPAG(437)?

Hi,

Take a look at www.mullermedia.com/download for info (particularly
wangdata.pdf) and free evaluation software. See the @@readme.txt file.

This program was intended for Wang legacy files, but is handy for almost any
kind of "mini/mainframe" data.

There are probably several ways to do this. In an RPG program you can
call the QDCXLATE program to convert any data from EBCDIC to ASCII (or
whatever). Or you can copy a file on the AS/400 to a QDLS folder or IFS
directory and specify data conversion.

If you want something ready to go there are several of us vendors with
products that will convert DB2/400 data to Excel CSV and other formats.
If you are interested take a look at our CrossData/400 product:

Bob:

How are you planning to move the file to the PC once it's created? If you use
FTP, for example, you specify the ASCII FTP subcommand before the GET and the
conversion to ASCII occurs during the transfer.

Perhaps it's a problem that just doesn't exist.
