Hello everybody!

I will have to change the primary language of one of my AS/400. I know it is
possible to do it using a secondary language media, and choosing 'Install
operating system' from the manual IPL menu. Can I do the same if I don't have
a secondary language media, but the Operating system (in the good language of
course) tapes? I need to switch from French to English language. Are there
any particular things to check before this operation (maybe particular
systeme values like QCHRID, QLANGID and so on...) How can I estimate the
duration of this operation?

Thank in adavance.

Pascal

Hi Pascal,

I've done this while upgrading to a newer release, but never within the
same release (even doubt if this is possible). As far as I remember from
the new release, you had to select a manual install instead of an automatic
one, but just check the installation manuals (they explain step by step).

Regards,
Paul

"Changing Your Primary Language Using Secondary Language Media"
is Chapter 8 of "AS/400 Software Installation" manual SC41-5120.

Read PTF cover letter II08311 for some information. Search on 'pri'

First of all, Thanks to everybody for your quick answers.
I know that it's possible to do it using a secondary language, but I only
have a complete English Version.
It seems (regarding the install options of the OS/400) that it's possible to
install only language objects from installation Tapes
(Don't remember the option, maybe 2 of manual IPL menu), but I've never do
this.
In my opinion, a secondary language is only the panel groups and language
objects of a specific version.
So, normaly, (if I'm right...) I could install my new primary language using
the English install tapes
Right or not ?
