I am sure it is possible to remotely print from one AS/400 to another
by setting up some sort of virtual device, but whatever I try (when
creating the device description) when I start the writer the message
keeps on displaying saying the printer is not available.
Does anybody have any suggestions???.
Also these printers are attached to the token ring and I have created
the
device descriptions as *LAN but I sill have no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.

Which version of OS are the AS/400s?
After version V2R3 (if I am not mistaken) you can create a outq
that "points" to the other system and then just STRRMTWTR. After that
every prtf that is released in that outq, is sent to the remote AS/400
and printed.
I can't give more details because I am at home.
All is done with the CRTOUTQ and STRRMTWTR. There is no need for
any more commands.
By the way, you must already have the possibility to send prtfs
from system to system in a "manual" way (Option 1 on WRKSPLF).

For OS/400 v3rx you can print on remote AS/400 using SNADS:
1. Link the AS/400s
2. Config and start SNADS
3. Add QNETSPLF ( IBM user profile) using WRKDIRE. One entry for local user
( QNETSPLF LOCAL400 ) and one entry for each remote system ( QNETSPLF
REMOTE400). Repeat this on each system.
4. Create or change OUTQs so that they "points" to remote system & que.
Change autostart spoolsystem to 1.
5. Print and be happy, It works very well !! ( If not, email me )
I hear there is such a thing as Printer Passthrough but we are not using
it.
Hopes this helps.
