Hi,

Can anyone offer some advice regarding the recommended size of the
TCP/IP send and receive buffers.

We currently have both set to the default size of 8192. However, a
new guy in the department said this is too low. We haven't had any
(noticeable) problems.

Your comments are appreciated.

Thanks,

In the Broadband Newsletter the author recommended 32k for 100m intranets.
The 8k value for was old 10m networks or dialups.

65536 is a good round # to use.

kevin could be right
65536 should be OK for TRN
There is a relation between MTU, MSS and frame size
Assume a frame size of 4141 bytes (in the lind) the 4141-40 = MTU -5
=MSS
And great that is 4096 what a luck 16 * 4096 is 65536, if you see too
many retransmissions try 8 * 4096, so the buffersize should match a
multiply
For Ethernet there is a other number then Token ring or ATM.

Setting the TCP/IP buffer size to 65535 is a good thing. You should also
check the MTU and have it set to *IFC (this will calculate the proper size
for you). Buffer Size should be a power of 2.

My comment is: as larger buffer size as faster will be a connection, but
each tcp connection will use that buffer size, so as larger buffer size
as larger memory requirement, then possible poor performance due to
memory lack and subsequent disk swap.
