Henry,

The other major player is MKS with their Implementor (formerly Silvon
Software) product.
We just switched from Implementor to Aldon CMS and Aldon Affiniti (Aldon's
new IFS based change control tool). Our driving factor was HTML, Net.Data
macros, and JAVA all being developed inconjunction with traditional RPG
objects and running on the AS/400.

While all three vendors have some form of offering for the IFS, Aldon is the
only PC based option. Setup and operation of CMS has proven to be much
superior to our experience with Implementor from MKS. Sorry, no experience
with softlanding, except to tell you that their IFS based offering is green
screen based.

I've never used Turnover, but we do have Aldon CMS. I'm very impressed
with it. Even though we're a small shop, 2 programmers, it has made
developement on our application software, purchased from a 3rd-party,
much easier. Especially, when I went to load a new version of the
applications from the vendor.

I don't know about the environment, but i recently upgraded my Aldon
FlexEdit editor to the latest version (our as400 is at 4.3) and noticed that
the current version doesn't automatically "remember" source locations like
the previous versions did!!

I can be editing multiple source code, say dds, cl, and rpg, and when i
upload back to as400 it needs to be "told" where the source came from.

It never used to work this way, so i called their tech support and was told
that they are aware of the problem but no resources are working to fix it at
the present time.

Well, i am truly sorry! I am surfing for a new editor!
This is too important a "bug/feature" to have no resources allocated to fix
it!!
(and i have been using FlexEdit since Picante had it in the old Sys36
days)!!

John,

If you are looking for a new editor, I think you will find that RPG Alive
2000 from Profound Logic Software is great for editing RPG, CL, and DDS.
And best of all, there is no uploading/downloading of source at all with
this product!

It is easy to install and FREE to try for 30 days at http://www.RPGAlive.com
