We have IBM Director Server software (for system management) installed
on one of our iSeries. I have the Director Console installed on my PC
(Windows XP). Today I installed Director Agent on two more of our
iSeries (both the Server and the Agent can be installed on many
platforms, e.g. Linux, AIX, Windows, but they cannot both be installed
on the same platform.) The Agent makes the machine on which it is
installed a "Level 2" managed system.

I can't get the Director Console to recognize the two iSeries where
the Agent is installed as Level 2 managed systems. In the Console,
they have little "lock" symbols on them, and the entry for each system
says it is an "agentless" system, i.e. Level 0.

Nothing in the installation guide and instructions indicates an IPL is
necessary for the Director licensed program to become active, nor that
there is any command to start any service or server jobs.

Does anyone else have any experience with this?

A little off topic but I'm curious how you like the product? We
looked into Director briefly a few months ago. Had very little info
available that I could find. Also, it took IBM support about an hour
or so to find anyone that could give us any information on the
product.

I'm just getting started with it, and at this point I'm just trying to
get it installed, so I can't tell you too much yet. At a quick
glance, it looks as if it could be useful. I'm more of an i5/iSeries
DBA than I am an admin, but I do have (think positive: get!) to do
some admin work, and this looks like we might get something out of it.

BTW, I solved the problem I was having with it. Installing the i5/OS
Director Agent on the machines creates a new TCP/IP server:
*DIRECTOR. This needs to be started with the STRTCPSVR command. That
little step wasn't covered in the installation guide. I found it by
doing a web search and stumbling across a "Red Wiki" page,
