Font size and *SCS printers

Forgive me for perhaps asking an easy question but is it possible to
change the font size of a single output field in a *SCS printer file
which gets printed on an *SCS printer?

Up till now all my "fancy" printing has been for *AFPDS printers or
lasers connected via HPT. I'm under the impression that you can change
fonts (sizes?) even with *SCS stuff but all the DDS keywords seem to be
for *IPDS or *AFPDS.

Thanks in advance,
Charles

Charles, I believe a technical reference manual for a 3812, 3816, 3912, or
a 3916 will describe the SCS data stream including the format for
specifying a font change. However, you would have to imbed the SCS codes
within the print data yourself. If you have the printer file set to
replace unprintables no, you should be able to write out the SCS command
as part of your text data.

Ok, even using *AFPDS files with my 6400 doesn't allow me to change the
font size.

It appears that the only way to get large printing on the 6400 is with
GDDM. Specifically, the GDDM graphical symbol set (object type *GSS).

So how can I make use of these *GSS objects?

Thanks,
Charles

Rodney,

Actually, the printer I want to print this on is a 6400. As far as I can
tell it's resident font's don't include one big enough for my needs.

Also, this is actually an IPDS printer but apparently it will not accept
downloaded fonts from the 400.

As far as I can tell, my only option is to use GGDM Graphic symbol sets.
But I don't understand how to. In particular, how do I make use of them
along with the external print file in RPG IV?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Charles

What size are you trying to print? Have you tried putting CPI(5) on
the printer file to see what it looks like? If it works, you can then
put the CPI(10) keyword on all the fields that you *dont* want to
print large.

In an IPDS or AFPDS printer file, you might can use the FONT(245)
keyword but I haven't tested it.

To use the graphic fonts, you do something like this.
You generally have to have library QGDDM in the library list of the
job that generates the spooled file:
R REC1
F1 20 10 10FONT(ADMDVSS) CHRSIZ(3 3)

Here's something else you can try. The DDS manual sez it ought to
work:
R REC1
F1 20 10 10FONT(*VECTOR) CHRSIZ(3 3)

Bob

Bob,

Thanks this works just fine:

> R REC1
> F1 20 10 10FONT(ADMDVSS) CHRSIZ(3 3)
>

As far as getting the larger print. However, there is a huge delay
between pages. Is there any way to improve this?

I think the font(245) would work, but I don't think it will be big enough
now if there was a Courier Double-wide Double-High that might be ok.

I'll see what CPI(5) gives me, although I'm afraid it will still be to
short.

Thanks for your help,
Charles

Charles,

You should be able to use the CHRSIZE DDS keyword to get
your text expanded on a 6400. You don't have to use the
Graphics Symbol Sets if you don't want to but you can. If
you just use the CHRSIZE without specifying one of them, the
default font on the printer will be expanded to make it as
big as you want. See the DDS reference manual in the
infocenter under Database and File systems, DB2 UDB for
iSeries.
