Need help configuring an AS/400 w/OS400 V4R1. Want to configure 3 HP4
laserjets w/jetdirect cards using ethernet TCP/IP. Would like to print
to them from both AS/400 terminals and via Client Access/Win95 V3.1.3
in 5250 emulation. The jetdirect cards are currently configured through
the front panel to static TCP/IP addresses.

Thanks in advance........

You will have to setup remote output queues (CRTOUTQ) for each of the HP
printers and add entries in your host table.

CRTOUTQ OUTQ(queue name)
RMTSYS(IPNETADR)
RMTPRTQ(printer name)
CNNTYPE(*IP)
DESTTYPE(*OTHER)
MFRTYPMDL(*HP4 check CL manual for other printer types)

I appreciate the response Tom, and I created the Queues as per your
instructions, however they apparently need to be assigned to a writer and the
writer assigned to a Printer. I attempted to set them (HP4s/Jetdirect
Cards)up as a *LAN class
device but I can't get and type or model to work with the *LAN class. I get a

"Type and Model don't match class error"
As you can tell I've only been using an AS400 for about a month now, most of
that time has been spent configuring data tables for a third party software
package. I searched the AS400 website to no avail.

Thanks again........

Hi David,

This should do the job (if your printer supports PJL)

CRTDEVPRT DEVD(devicename)
DEVCLS(*LAN)
TYPE(3812)
MODEL(1)
LANATTACH(*IP)
PORT(9100)
FONT(11)
FORMFEED(*AUTOCUT)
PARITY(*NONE)
STOPBITS(1)
TRANSFORM(*YES)
MFRTYPMDL(*HP4)
PPSRC1(*A4)
PPSRC2(*A4)
RMTLOCNAME(hostname)
SYSDRVPGM(*HPPJLDRV)

Regards,
Paul

There's an important command that's being left out.

After creating the remote outq, you start the writer by executing a:

STRRMTWTR OUTQ(outqname)

A device is not necessary for a remote outq.

Is it possible to (and, if so, how do I) create a 'Printer' device on the
AS/400 for an OUTQ created like this? I've set one of these up, and they
work marvelously (much better than routing a print job through a NT
workstation, running CA and Netsoft router)
